Pay attention to your car!

I had a odd wobble in first before the turbo kicked in. I figured my flex disk was going bad or my center carrier bushing was bad.

Ended up being:

I could have ended up needing a new DS or worse yet a new everything!

Probably has been replaced without new bolts & one has been over tightened or had to be forced to be loosened during prior work.

That was the weak link. sure was a close one.

I have remove the DL several times with this 4-spd swap. how many time can these bolts be used? I know the nuts are the pinch/lock nuts, and probably should be changed each time. the bolts are pretty stout and are usually just hand tightened gootentite.

i don't think they stretch with each use, but when you buy a new flex disc they usually come with new bolts. just don't get a chinese brand get the good german stuff so you don't get a chinese bolt along with chinese plastic & rubber puck that will disintegrate the first time you do a massive burnout

I had a wierd noise from the engine one day and found one of the powersteering pulley bolts loose. Had that gone it would have been equally nasty with the serpintine belt.

Turns out the PO of the transmission stuck a 80mm flexdisk on a 75mm yoke....

Thanks for posting to this again --- I recently felt/heard a wobble in the 1984 300D --- it's down for a leaky water pump, so will add inspection of the flexdiscs and bolts to the list.

Was the DS flange bolted through the disc directly to the trans flange rather than to the disc? ( and the other 3 holes of the disc bolted to the trans using different bolts )
