My 124 doesn't have a factory alarm and the key-less access I added has an unused button for the horn / alarm. My plan is to use that button / trigger for 1 button closing of the windows & sunroof.

All that should need to be done is add something like this kit so that the lock circuit is energized for x seconds.

Maybe someone got tired of the alarm blaring for no reason at 2am and removed the module but all US spec 124s were delivered with a security system.

Really

My understanding (from reading multiple threads) is that there was a module under the passenger's side rug for the alarm. My car doesn't have that module or any unused connectors. What did the system do, maybe mine has one and I don't know it.

Correct, the alarm module is under the passenger footrest. It watches all the doors including hood and trunk. The tilt-sensor (anti-towing) was under the rear seat, left side. It was removed after the 1987 model year because it caused too many false alarms. The convenience relay was installed in its place. My '87 300D had the alarm removed and an aftermarket one installed; the wiring was all messed up, took me a year or two to get things reasonably back together. My '95 E300 has the factory alarm in primo condition, my first experience with one that works as installed.

Some other cars do have a lock/unlock switch on the dash: W210 E-class, W140 S-class, etc. The switch is available from M-B and looks like a window switch but with a key symbol added. I plan to add one to my car.

Another thing I want to do is to add a central-locking defeat switch so that I can unlock the driver's door while leaving all of the other doors locked as a security measure. All it takes is a switch to turn off power to the central locking pump.

Jeremy

Jeremy's the person to ask about function. The basic function beeps a horn by the ABS pump if any of the doors, trunk lid or hood are opened after the doors are locked using the key. A tilt sensor in the trunk might be a standard feature or something added later. Who knows how sophisticated the system was by 1995.

My information could be wrong. Your datacard should list a security system option if equipped.

So I tested this key-window-up/down feature. Its delicious.

I like it.

It'll be wired into the keyless entry system. I also want to install a switch on the dashboard to perform the same actions. I dont know why MB didnt!

From initial inspection, it looks like I'll have to provide power to this convenience relay.

I did notice that only my windows went up/down. My sunroof only closed after I'd opened it. I turned the key on, then off, closed my door, put the key in and held it to unlock, all 4 windows went down. Same was true for lock, except they went up.
