My 124 doesn't have a factory alarm and the key-less access I added has an unused button for the horn / alarm. My plan is to use that button / trigger for 1 button closing of the windows & sunroof.

All that should need to be done is add something like this kit so that the lock circuit is energized for x seconds.

Maybe someone got tired of the alarm blaring for no reason at 2am and removed the module but all US spec 124s were delivered with a security system.

Is this convinience relay the box that sits under the rear seat behind the driver. I have auto down front windows, and have tried to do the key held to lock in door trick but it never worked for me.

btw my car has a keyless entry system that has been installed aftermarket, its quite a bunch of wires and 2 Bosch relays too, All of this lives under the knee panel of the driver dash. My car does have a working original alarm system but to make that work I have to lock to trunk or the driver's door with the key. The keyless itself has its own horn but its pretty goofy.

With the keyless I cannot lock or unlock the doors with the remote if the engine is running.

Really

My understanding (from reading multiple threads) is that there was a module under the passenger's side rug for the alarm. My car doesn't have that module or any unused connectors. What did the system do, maybe mine has one and I don't know it.

Jeremy's the person to ask about function. The basic function beeps a horn by the ABS pump if any of the doors, trunk lid or hood are opened after the doors are locked using the key. A tilt sensor in the trunk might be a standard feature or something added later. Who knows how sophisticated the system was by 1995.

My information could be wrong. Your datacard should list a security system option if equipped.

I implemented "sunroof close" on my '87 300D with one additional relay, making use of one of the extra buttons on the remote of the keyless entry system I installed. The 1987 models had no convenience relay, of course. I looked at "window close" but that would have required a 4-pole relay and a lot of wiring. I rarely used the sunroof close feature anyway, it was more an interesting technical challenge.

Pictures show the keyless entry electronics under the passenger seat of the '87 300D and two pictures of the relay added in the trunk to close the sunroof.

Sunroof "controls"

J.D.,
The 124.128's system operates like this also:
_________________________________________________________________
"Yes, mechanical. The convenience relay should close the sunroof and all four windows. You turn the key to "lock" and hold it there for more than 5 seconds and everything should close.

If you change your mind a few seconds after closing you are supposed to be able to reverse the key (to "unlock") and the things that closed will re-open. I've never tried that with my '95 but that's what the manual says. You have only 10-15 seconds to do this, then the system shuts off.

Jeremy"
_________________________________________________________________
But, the sunroof cannot be opened using the Convenience Control Unit
Actuated by the Key.

"Jumpering" the correct terminals on the Convenience Control with 12V+
Opens and Closes the Sunroof,BUT ONLY when the the Ignition is in "Accessory" or "Run" positions
(Which allows the Convenience Relay [in the Fuse Box to apply power to the Sunroof system.)

There is a receptacle marked xC on the Convenience Control Unit.
It has a plug with 4 wires.
If +12V is applied to position #2 in this plug(Yellow Wire with Violet Stripe)
The Sunroof opens.
(This same wire runs to the "Sliding /Pop-Up Roof Drive Unit in the Trunk,
Position #3 AND can be accessed there.)

If +12v is applied to position #3 in this plug (Yellow Wire with Red Stripe)
the Sunroof closes.
(This same wire runs to the "Sliding Pop-Up Roof Drive Unit " in the Trunk,
position #4 AND can be accessed there.)

If +12V is applied to position #1 in this Plug (Yellow Wire with White Stripe) the Pop-Up feature activates.
(This same wire runs to the "Sliding Pop-Up Roof Drive Unit " in the Trunk,
position #5 AND can be accessed there.)

All three of the above actions require the Ignition to be in "Accessory" or "Run".

The Sunroof's Non-Lifting is probably(UnFortunately) broken Lift arms.

In your car (and mine) the convenience relay is indeed where you say. It sounds like the installer of your keyless entry system boogered the wiring to make it work. Holding the key in the "lock" position for more than 5 seconds should start all the windows and sunroof closing. You must keep the key in that position until the closing completes (unless you want to leave the windows 'cracked' for ventilation, but that's tricky because each window closes in its own sweet time).

The knee panel is another location that can be used for the keyless entry as the wires from the door switches run through that area and there's power available from the auxiliary connection panel. Under the rear seat gives you more room to work with but access to the alarm wires is harder.

So I tested this key-window-up/down feature. Its delicious.

I like it.

It'll be wired into the keyless entry system. I also want to install a switch on the dashboard to perform the same actions. I dont know why MB didnt!

From initial inspection, it looks like I'll have to provide power to this convenience relay.

I did notice that only my windows went up/down. My sunroof only closed after I'd opened it. I turned the key on, then off, closed my door, put the key in and held it to unlock, all 4 windows went down. Same was true for lock, except they went up.

Correct, the alarm module is under the passenger footrest. It watches all the doors including hood and trunk. The tilt-sensor (anti-towing) was under the rear seat, left side. It was removed after the 1987 model year because it caused too many false alarms. The convenience relay was installed in its place. My '87 300D had the alarm removed and an aftermarket one installed; the wiring was all messed up, took me a year or two to get things reasonably back together. My '95 E300 has the factory alarm in primo condition, my first experience with one that works as installed.

Some other cars do have a lock/unlock switch on the dash: W210 E-class, W140 S-class, etc. The switch is available from M-B and looks like a window switch but with a key symbol added. I plan to add one to my car.

Another thing I want to do is to add a central-locking defeat switch so that I can unlock the driver's door while leaving all of the other doors locked as a security measure. All it takes is a switch to turn off power to the central locking pump.

Jeremy
