Trans failing to drive or reverse,83 300cd

I was unable to get any forward gears or reverse on this car and started to read some other threads on this subject for help ,one point was to pull the trans cooler line off to see if fluid was pumping after startup ,thats a big yes.Now should I start by taking the drive shaft off and inspecting the rear of the trans for flexplate failure or other unkown issues.Ive read that this will cause alot of noise when this lets go ,their was none.I was getting some drive weirdness before the trans went out ,most of it was at the point of starting off from a stop light ,it hesitate then some noise then back to normal. I would love to be able to start driving this car again ,the engine performs flawlessly ,crazy because it has over 350k miles with very little of a hickup for it.

OK so the front pump squirts rather than dribbles then?

That's good news.

Have you checked the linkage from the shifter to the transmission?

I think that that's worth checking before you look for missing nuts / broken yokes (not just a missing flex disc which would probably be a bit more obvious)
