One year later, New Catalog, New Tech Articles!!!

Exactly one year ago, we merged Peach Parts with Pelican Parts. We were working extensively on our new Mercedes catalog and tech sections, but we were quite a bit off from releasing them. I thought it would happen sooner, but I hope that you guys will be happy with the results.

First off, we have a brand new Mercedes catalog on our site which now the most comprehensive one available on the Internet. We analyzed all of our competitors and decided that if it was out there for Mercedes, then we should list it in the catalog. We're still working on adding more product, but we think you'll see that we now have a very comprehensive offering. It may have taken us a year to get it done, but we feel that doing things right the first time is very important.

We've also lowered our pricing on thousands of items. We're now officially off of the old "Fast Lane" and "AllPartsExpress" systems, and are currently offering very good pricing on all of the parts in our catalog. In the past, we were locked into using "legacy" systems, but now we're tapped into the Pelican Parts' catalog system, along with our network of 400+ suppliers. I'm still working out some of the free shipping bugs in our shopping cart, but those should be fixed in day or two. Take a look at our new catalog here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/Mercedes-Benz/index.htm

Finally, we've been working on a bunch of new Mercedes articles for you guys (with a *ton* more in the works right now as well). I have them all listed in our new Mercedes Tech section here: Pelican Parts - Mercedes Benz Technical Articles

We've also added all of the Genuine Mercedes parts into our search engine, so that you can simply type any current MBZ part number in, and then you will be able to order it online. This feature is very popular with our Porsche and BMW customers.

You've noticed that the top navigation bar has changed on the forums here. This is to highlight the transition to the new catalog. I apologize if you don't like it, but it's needed as the revenue generated from parts sales is needed to support the Peach Parts forums.

The catalog and these other changes are still in "beta testing", and there will bound to be some issues and bugs. Feel free to drop me a line if there are any issues you wish to discuss - we're going to be still working out all of the bugs and problems over the next few weeks. But, I felt that it was important to launch the new catalog / tech articles at least on the 1-year anniversary of merging Pelican and Peach.

Thank you all again for your continued patience and support!

-Wayne

Oh, and by the way. I'm not sure if any of you noticed recently, but I did upgrade all of the servers to super-fast SSD (Solid-State Drives). This has significantly improved reliability and speed for the forums and for searching as well!

Fast Lane is Gone

Just noticed that Fast Lane is gone and the Pelican parts catalog is now up. Did some poking around in there, sure a different lay out looking for something. their tech articles only cover 1996 and newer, so doesn`t apply to us older Diesel owners, but all that was worked out before the Pelican showed up anyway. Just do a search on the forum, way more info there.

What cought my eye is the notice "Exciting things happening at Peach Parts" is gone.

I clicked on the New Parts Catalog, car on left looked like a W123, think is said E-Class? got me into what looked familar. OH 240D there are the Diesels. (there I said the word Diesel )
I noticed they have Dash Covers, so checked it out looking for one of the rugs, all they have is the plastic overlays in any color you want. forget that.

Looked at the Clutch link, Sachs for $149, about the same price , then Genuine, probably a chicom part, BMW $250 (I think it was) too rich for my blood. ya know how uppity those BMW guys are.

So what happens to Phill? they boot him out?

Dumping the old DIY articles was a pretty stupid move. I have no interest in 1996 & newer MBs, and it would conversely appear PP has no interest in me. Shame; it has been a nice decade of being here.

"just do a search" for older information is going end up cluttering up the forum with people reinventing the wheel.

The old articles are still there: click on PeachParts DIY Articles link on this page:
Pelican Parts - Mercedes Benz Technical Articles

I think Charlie meant that their new tech articles are only treating newer model Mercedes.

Correct, that is what I ment on the new tech articles.

The resource Tab is gone, figured out we need to click on the "Tech Info Center" tab. They should have left the Resource tab where it was. but the DIY links is not there.

With less brand name of cars left on the list (TX76513 mentioned no Mazdas) Phill (If he is still around) will be sitting around twiddling his Thumbs.
Looks like the phone # at the top is Phills. hate to call him and wake him up if I need something.

Rest assured, if you wish to order Mazda parts, we can still supply them. However, I checked the numbers over the past year, and I'm guessing that you were (unfortunately), the only person to order Mazda parts over the entire year! Showing all other makes of cars dilutes the brand - we're a European parts company *specializing* in these cars and these suppliers. I'll let the other companies like AutoZone and PepBoys sell every part for every car - we want to concentrate on the cars that you guys drive and love (and love to drive).

That said, we can still order just about anything Japanese through our suppliers.

All the old articles are still on the new page that we posted. I'm currently looking for a more elegant way to combine them altogether with the new ones that we're working on. The other DIY link simply pointed to the first page of the forums, which can be had by scrolling down on the main page.

We have a bunch of cars ready to be torn down in the back of the shop for some more tech articles that will expand the entire range. This is just the *first* set, where we tore down a later-model E-Class (it was my mother-in-law's car that I bought off of her about three years ago in anticipation of getting Mercedes tech content up on the site). We've got plenty more in the hopper and are investing a lot of time and energy into the effort. What other parts company works this way?

Thanks for everyone's feedback and continued support!

See my post:

My car has been discontinued at pelican parts.

There's no possible access for 83 W 123 cars when you access the site.

If the system isn't 100% ready, don't put it up.

That's a small labeling glitch, it's listed under the E-Class. I'm working with Phil right now to clarify that. In the meantime, here's a direct link: Pelican Parts - 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D Sedan Parts and Accessories
