No Start HELP

Beautiful day, I thought I would take the bike out for a ride. Moved the car 1984 300D, it started fine with one rotation. Got back from the ride to move it back behind the trialer, it started but rough then it shut off. attempted to start it nothing, it just turn over. so I did the following:

Disconnected the #1 injector fuel line, had wife crank it over no fuel came out. Fuel is supposed to come when the engine is being turn over right?

Both fuel filters are new, standard protocol after buyin a use car. Change everything, oil/filer, trans fluid, air filter and fuel filters.

Where can I start to isolate the lack of fuel?

What else can I check to verify fuel is not making it to the injectors?

This car has 76K original, but sat for at least 12 yrs. The reason I say that because the last yr it was registered was 2000 as indicated on the tags that were on it before I picked it up.

It was running great, drove it 300 miles already. Thanks in advance.

Work the primer pump, plastic knob right next to the injector pump. 2-3 turns ccw, pump till it gets hard, and you feel it circulating fuel through the IP. If no start, crank w/ injector lines loosened till they bleed through. Start looking for places where air may leak into fuel lines & tighten up. You may have made a leak replacing a filter.

I would get several feet of 5/16" Fuel Hose from the regular Parts Store; enought to go into a seperate Container of 2 or mor gallons of clean Diesel Fuel.

And, do what moon161 said concerning priming the system. If Fuel does not come out of the Fuel Fuel Injection Lines like that try cranking the Engine while some one works the Hand Primer. If that works the Fuel Supply Lift Pump could have issues or the Fuel Pressure/Overflow Valve is not holding pressure.

If no Fuel is coming out of the Injector Lines like that I would look up some of the Threads were the Car sat a long time and it was believed the IP was plugged up internally.

2 things can happen; the Fuel Feed Holes in the Elements can be plugged and or the Plungers can get stuck upwards due to old sticky Fuel.

Here is one thread:

People have used various chemicals to unstick things.

Once you get Fuel out of the Fuel Injection lines it is also possible the Injectors are gummed up.

Thank you everyone for your inputs, I had my wife crank while I was pumping the prime pump. I noitced some dripping on the injector lines, so I hooked them back up and attemp to start the car. It was rough at first but it finally idled.

I think it was the spin on filter that was lose, I was able to get 3 to four turns out of the bolt on top. I did not want to tighten it that tight initially because I figured I did not see any leak. Hence it would be fine,
