Arguably the best thing to do with an OM617 (One for panZZer?)

Credit has to go to metalmeet for bringing this to my attention - but wow what a project it would be!

40 Ford with 300D

I have a 40 Ford Tudor Sedan, largely disassembled since I discovered a cracked crank about 10 years ago, that was to be the recipient of the 617 from an 85TD that I took out of service about the same time. I'm in the process of putting the TD back on the road now, so no engine there, but even though I have the Flathead ready to go back together I still wonder about a diesel in the 1940. Actually thinking now that a NA 240 or 300 would be a better choice.

Probably a bit easier to work with and I'd assume the Tudor is probably light by today's standards so it wouldn't be underpowered with a 617 NA.

Army, that is an interesting link. I didn't know Ford did that stuff at all. They certainly don't blow their horn very loudly about it. Kudos to them.

Good eh?

It would be really nice to own one - and with a full brand new body costing $15K I'm looking into shipping costs! Bollocks to the W123 eh? I'll just fit my non turbo 617 and transmission that's all be rebuilt and be done with it...

I'd be happy to take photos, but fair warning, the 40 Ford Sedan is 3rd or 4th in the queue. Following the 85 TD I have to finish a 4BTA engine swap, then the 40 Ford has to fight with a 52 Dodge PW for attention.

I'm surprised you're not keener on the idea - I thought it would be right up your street what with the bits and bobs you've got kicking about, you'd have an easy little project with a new body shell wouldn't you?

Yea -I was posting something about this subject in the hamb old coe thread, about all the crazy shyt being cranked out in china, and said it probably wont come out with pepop fenders for my truck-- But it really wouldn't supprise me if they did-- There IS a repop entire cab for the 47-55 style trucks............... why the hell they did this is a mystery to me, around the countryside -its littered with these "garden variety" gm trucks.
and the 55-57 style
Truck Parts | 1952-1954 | 1952-54 GM TRUCK COMPLETE CAB ASSEMBLY | Classic Industries
Whats really sad is much of it's being done on OUR old 60 -80 yr old 35000 and 40000 ton Toledo presses that were sold off when shops around Michigan and Ohio and Indiana were closed.

anyway IMO all american icon cars should stay Gasoline, jeeps, landcruisers, and powerwagons-- weapons carriers seem ideal for a TD conversion.

Average americans dont got near enough spare denero for a new shell of anything. Even the 69 camaro. the websites about those have more stories of those projects having to be sold because of the divorce--ex couldn't understand a car gut trying to sink that kind of money into building a brand new version of a 40 or 75 yr old vehicle. ( sorry -i dont mean to bring you down into a depressive mood Army).

So do you need a '40 Ford frame to put one of these bodies on? Or can you fit it to something else?
