steering box adjustment, forum help

I decided to adjust the steering box on my Merc. I figured the adjuster was straight forward, there was a grub screw held by a nut. How simple could it be. Snug down the screw and tighten the nut.

I went for a drive. OOPS I had about 3" of steering wheel play.... Something is wrong here. I better do a search on peachparts.

Sure enough, turn the screw out till it feels a bit snug. I did that and turned it back in just a bit. Nice.

Thanks for helping me fix it.
