722.4 K2 Spring Part Number
When I was looking for this there was almost no information, if this is common knowledge, I apologize.
The K1 spring for the 2-3 shift is a pretty common repair that has done a lot of good in a lot of peoples transmissions, Mercedes updated the K1 spring, the newer springs are more stout than the originals. However there is no information for the 3-4 K2 Spring. I had some issue with the 3-4 shift so I wanted to try to replace the 3-4 spring. I deal with a great parts guy at Crown Mercedes Benz and he did some research and came up with 2 different part numbers called K2 springs in the catalog. I think he found them in the 190E 2.3 catalog, if you look up a K2 for a 1987 300D nothing comes up. Anyways, he got both in and I pulled the spring and holder out of my car. One of them matches. Some people say the K1 is interchangeable for the K2. This isn't true of the transmission in later cars. On the left is a new K1 kit. The two blue kits are the K2 kits Mercedes found, and the green on the far right is the K2 that came out of my 1987 300D. The part number on the Green holder that came out of the car matches the part number on the light blue holder for the new K2 kit. The springs are identical in dimension, so Mercedes must have just changed plastic colors. The part number on the tube is 126 277 84 32 However the kit part number is 126 270 04 35 The part number for the dark blue kit is 126 270 05 35 and the packaging says K2 on it so it is the K2 for some version of the 722. The K1 part number is 126 270 44 77 Pan Gasket part number is 201 271 03 80 67 Transmission filter part number is 201 277 02 95

NOT SHIFTING INTO 4th
Guys, this is the exact problem I am having on my 93' 300D. It is not shifting to 4th...it's like it goes into neutral...other gears shift fine. It is the exact symptoms 2 of you described...what is the fix?

This usually means that the transmission needs to be rebuilt. It's often a symptom of leaky clutch packs. It happens in 4th because both the K1 and K2 packs need to be engaged, which puts the greatest load on the hydraulics. The things you want to check:
1) fluid and filter, naturally. If you have access to a transmission gauge check the working pressure and modulator pressure. 2) Disconnect vacuum to the modulator. If the transmission engages (harshly), you should be able to get it back for awhile with a modulator adjustment. 3) Check the K2 accumulator spring. Usually a bad K2 spring will cause a flare going into fourth, but maybe sometimes it prevents engagement altogether. 4) Try a viscosity improver additive. 5) Either replace or rebuild the transmission, or retire the car. |

fluid and filter a waste of money?
So I added some sea foam and prayed...nothing happened. Do you think that a filter and fluid flush would do anything or just waste money? Do you have any idea what the k2 part # is for a 300d 1993? Does anyone? I have looked for hours and also called the dealer and I can't find it...

Some quotes from elsewhere, the transmission for your car is similar to the 190D 2.5:
722.403 and 722.414 Harsh 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4 Shifts Mercedes has releaased new accumulator assemblies for the 722.403 (190D 2.2L) and 722.414 (190D 2.5L) units to combat harsh shift complaints. You can resolve these complaints by using these parts: Harsh 1-2 Shift ....................................... 124 270 0035 Harsh 2-3 Shift ....................................... 126 270 03 35 Harsh 3-4 Shift (722.403) ....................... 126 270 04 35 Harsh 3-4 Shift (722.414) ....................... 126 270 05 35 |

K1, K2 and B1 722.4 valve replace
In my experiences loosing top gear is the beginning of transmission failure.
