The solenoid takes car of the heavy load through the ignition wiring. When I first installed the push button system I still had the old loop GPs and I ran the load straight through the ignition wiring (15 amp push button), no problem, then when I swapped in a later engine (new style GPs) I hooked up the solenoid, fearing more amps might be pushing it. Also went to a 80 amp strip fuse, been trouble free for 10 or so years.

As far as I know, my new heavier duty bush button switch operations only when pushed in . . . . should double check this though - I suppose solenoid could be faulty . . . still thinking that a relay is being activated and just not sure where it is on a w115 car - timer is at steering column and that is unplugged currently though problem still existed when it was plugged in so another GP relay somewhere for this '75 300d w115??? Thanks guys for hanging with this one!

The relay is built in to the timer. The glow system on my early '77 used the same timer assembly, and for a while I was using a timer that I pulled from a '75 300D. Same part numbers, same everything. I am intimately familiar with the system, and I assure you that if the timer is completely unplugged, then no power will be present at the strip fuse. There will still be power at the ignition switch for the timer circuit, however, as that is what feeds the timer module.

One mystery solved, thanks!
