On a similar note - I have observed that my 3000 mile drained out Dino 15W40 oil if left in the oil container settles the soot down - Leaving the oil quite clean.

I also can get hold of a few gallons of 50 or something hours used CAT or LE diesel oil. It also settles soot like my car's oil.

Are such CAT or LE oils good to use?

Back in the late seventies one of the guys in the Chemistry department did oil analysis with an IR Spectrophotometer. Wonder if you could get one cheap on ebay?

I'll haul the 5 gallon bucket home, then get to work with a centrifuge, I think the CAT or LE oils would be OK with my car. The maintenance guys who are giving me it say that is the finest cat's behind as the genset engine alone cost more than my car when it was new.
