814 (Truck) Warning light and cut-off Q?

Hi Everyone,

Not a usual post for the Forum, but I thought, well, it’s a Merc - 1992, 814.

I bought a Motorhome a few weeks ago in Germany, got it here to Belgium and my intention is to move it to England in January.
I started it yesterday after it being standing for about a week. It’s chilly here, but not much below zero.
I noticed that the red light with the exclamation mark in a cricle didn’t extinguish as it had done previously, and the engine failed to cut-off on the key - again, it had done this OK previously.
I’d be really pleased if someone told me that this was a loose wire or belt/vacuum? issue.
It's the four cylinder turbo, not the six.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Compliments of The Season to One and All.

Cheers,

Paul

Not familiar with that model but my guess would be that vacuum failed to build up due to a leak caused by the cold weather. Does the handbook say what the idiot light means? By the way, you're not going to get away without a request to post pictures of the motorhome. I am jealous.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I don't have the hand-book, sadly.

I'll have to get it fixed before I register it as any lit warning light is now a fail item for the technical control in UK.

Cheers,

Paul

can you post a pic of the light? red is usually related to brakes or charging.

Hi,

I'm not near the vehicle at the moment, but it is a white circle on a red rectangular light with a white exclamation mark in the middle.

At first I thought it may have been ignition related, but I imagine that if the alternator wasn't charging that the battery symbol would remain lit?

It's not the handbrake as there's a different warning for that.

Cheers,

Paul

Very nice motorhome. Is the 814 a version of the Sprinter chassis or the larger truck chassis? I thought it was the larger truck version?

How are the brakes? I assume the brakes are power assisted with vacuum. Are they?

Hi,

It's the 670, 3972cc.

7500kg chassis.

Brakes are fine and are vac.

Going to check for air leaks tomorrow.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for the input.

I found a vac cable hanging and frayed - problem solved!

Cheers,

Paul
