No offer. I don't need another project. Even picking it up ftom 250 miles from home wouldn't be worth it for me. He also sad " It's just to valuable to let go for less than 2k".
I didn't feel like I would get anywhere, so I walked.

Smart man.

Here's what I can pick up from the listing pictures:

The wiper is parked on the wrong side.
The battery is sitting low; probably had a rusted out tray.
That's MB-Tex.
Rusted out jack ports.
No hood star.
Rusted through under the right tail light.

Other than that, it looks a lot like the one I picked up for $500 from the D.C. impound auction - same colors and many of the same options.

Did you happen to get the VIN?

It's not hard to walk away when it is missing the hood star, Holy Grail Wagon or not. This was a pretty easy decision.

Sorry, no VIN
BTW- I was checking this car out to find a safer replacement for my 1983 300td. You see, I have 2 kids a dog and uh, uh a wife. An 87 wagon or sd/l will keep me out of a minivan. Not that I would consider anything but a diesel! . I have a thread going in the for sale section. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/332618-sale-trade-my-83-300td-your-300sd-sdl.html
Unless yall can talk me out of it

Somethings funky with the suspension too. Under moderate braking the car feels like it is tripping over its' shoelaces. Head over heels.
Lacks power under acceleration. Probably due to sucking in tons of air in the fuel system. (delivery valves?)
Interior is shot.
Owner said-"the jack points are solid, it's just the rocker panel that is rusted"
I asked what happened to the front end. He said he has bumped into some things. Like trucks. A few times.
This car is beat. Too bad.

There is a couple not far from me who have two 123 TDs, both NA diesels, a 79 and an 80 IIRC. Neither car runs, said mice have chewed lines and wires?

But they want $3K?

Some are just totally disconnected from reality.

... $2K... um, no.

there are likely $2K in PARTS on the car if someone pulls them and ships them. but you'd need to FIND that person needing the parts.
the head is worth some coin, but any scrap yard that has any newer SDL's will have the head for low dollars if you find it.
wow, no reality here.
good call to just walk away.
