1982 MERCEDES BENZ 240D DIESEL, RARE, LOW MILES!
1982 MERCEDES BENZ 240D DIESEL, LOW MILES ... in what reality is 190K considered LOW miles? Okay, then! By popular demand, it seems that we all get a kick out of poorly advertised / overpriced / heavily modified / horrendous cars we find in Craig's List. So, why not make a spoof on the Alert Thread? I shall get everybody started.... "Runs on 20% Soydiesel and gets about 38-40 MPG". Boy, there is sure a reason why this place is called "Quality Motors"! 1983 Mercedes Benz 240D Diesel 4 Speed manual Trany Runs on 20% Soydie http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/...3MB240D005.jpg Quote:
Can we update the original post to include some rules? This thread is going to be crap in the future if only stale links are posted. Perhaps:
This will keep the info beyond the short lifespan of a craigslist posting. What I find funny is the common erroneous use of "TD". When I see a listing for a 300TD, I like to look further, most of the time only to find a 300D. |

notice how the "RARE" 240 AUTOMATIC has blue interior, and suspiciously, zero pictures of the dash?
quote from the ad... 1982 MERCEDES BENZ 240D DIESEL, LOW MILES EXCELLENT CONDITION JUST EXTENSIVELY SERVICED BY MERCEDES BENZ MECHANIC GREAT GAS MILEAGE 190K MILES GOOD TIRES NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER VERY CLEAN |
This thread is going to be epic...

You'd run out of room if you included all the ones on eBay!
Happy Motoring, Mark |
Good idea! Hopefully everybody knows how to take screenshots!

1979 Mercedes Benz 300TD diesel - $13900 (Wakefield NH)
Maybe someone can put some "easy" instructions for uploading a snapshot???
1979 Mercedes Benz 300TD diesel |
on craigslist, the pics HOSTED are easily added to the post by right clicking on the pics, choosing copy image location then in the post reply section, manage attachments, and paste the location into the upload from url field. repeat for all pics, then just copy and paste the text from the ad into the reply section...
I.E. the last thread I started... it's a good example of a turd listing, and it's got all the pics and text included in the thread. I'll move it to this thread. heck, I'll add this thread to the sticky thread! http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/334143-240s-really-worth-much.html merge the thread into this one, but it's got so many replies it'd be hard to do... I could copy just my first two post in here though. |

a better way is uploading to the PeachParts server like I did in my post. I tried to upload your pic, only to find it's too large to upload. so now we need to add the rule pics must be resized to fit in the upload section! |

Would everybody agree that this thread, as well as the "alert" thread, would make more sense in the For Sale / Wanted section? I definitely see vstech's point here.
|

our forum has always had both an ebay alert thread, and a craigslist alert thread. this one would be totally useless in the for sale/wanted section... NOBODY in their right mind would WANT anything from something posted in this thread! however, I put the poll up, to gauge members response to the thread's usefulness. looks like the majority like the thread, if that changes, I'll take it up with the other moderators and move it or something... everybody needs to vote!:D |

Sounds fair! If the thread becomes useless, feel free to delete/move it!
Now, here's a 50MPG W126. With those wheels, where has this been all my life? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...-picture-2.jpg http://montana.craigslist.org/cto/3571229146.html |
You should cut and paste the ad into your post about the ad. If all you do is provide a link to the ad, this thread will be full of broken links as the ads expire or get flagged down.

Lets face it. One persons pile of crap can be another's shiny new car.
Why else would I have bought a 27 year old car. You ask the moon for a used car but that doesn't mean you will get it. |

Mercedes Turbo Diesel - low miles - Great Commuter - Reliable Tank! - $1499 (santa rosa)
Around 135K miles on a dependable 85 Mercedes 300D turbo. In Mercedes diesel worlds that is hardly broken in - they don't start running good until around 200K miles! Was used as a daily commute to work car with no problems. Automatic Transmission shifts good and smooth for a diesel. Needs a good wash and wax job. Looks like the one in the photo but mine is Maroon with black interior. Tires are good. This car will last longer than you will! 7O7-2O6-2OO8. Not perfect but a great buy at this price. I've owned Mercedes diesels for almost 40 years now and you can't beat them for reliability and low low cost maintenance http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...eec3241bdc.jpg |
Charlie-
That one is priceless. Thanks for passing it along. If the link disappears, the one missing piece of info is the price, which is $1500. Andrew |

Oh my Lord... 45 MPG and about an extra $2,800 needed in bodywork! "83 mercedes 240 d diesel 200k 4 speed runs great 45 plus mpg 401-263-2450 $2800-obro" |
Ok, everybody PLEASE!!!
if this thread is to survive the pictures in it MUST BE UPLOADED TO OUR SERVER USING THE ADVANCED MANAGE ATTACHMENTS!!! simple image pastes like above will NOT stay in the thread. you MUST right click on EACH photo, and use the manage attachments to upload the actual pictures to the PP server! |
charlie's first post, I edited to include uploaded pics, but his second one, with the tree damaged car... the pics are too big. PP will not allow them.
if this happens, the pics need to be uploaded to a photo editing site, and reduced to fit on the site. time consuming, I know, but without the steps the page will ultimately fail... |

I think you should get money back for having less than 25 sensors.
That is if you are stupid enough to fall for that warranty crap. :P |
I love that he'll take Mastercard/visa for purchasing a car...
|
Yeah this guys is a riot. The vin is 11111111111. This car has been for sale in some form or another here for like 1 year or so it seems.
|
WOW. That looks exactly like the '72 220 I had back in '87. I called that color 'chocolate-milk'.
Hope it's in better shape than mine turned out to be. Mine had a bent frame, a cracked gas-tank, a worn-out steering-box, a bad power-brake booster, a dead AC, and assorted rust spots sprouting under the shiny paint. I believe mine had that same kind of "leather" too! No craigslist in those days. After a year of driving & and spending about a grand to fix most of the flaws, I was lucky to get almost what I paid for it! Happy Motoring, Mark |
Does using Üro parts help accelerate the rate at which these cars turn into terds?
|
Yes. The proportional density of the cheap materials used in Uro parts and their increased atomic weights causes them to take on such mass as to become miniature black wholes. Oddly these black holes on attract money rather than other mass so much of this phenomenon is here to fore unexplained...
