notice how the "RARE" 240 AUTOMATIC has blue interior, and suspiciously, zero pictures of the dash?

haha Yeah I saw this one! Kind of like that guy in Wilmington who wanted like 8k For his white 81! These people live in a fantasy land. Or they overpaid for the car to begin with!

I do think that actual low-mileage, manual transmission, manual window regulator, rust free 240Ds are worth a premium to some people who consider them 'purist' cars.

With an autobox and that many miles... it's just him trying to find a turkey in a cage to shoot.

If a 240D floats their boat for the above reasons I'd suggest they take a look at a nice Model A. Doesn't get much 'purer' than that.

Having spent lots of time in 240D's over the years I can't fathom why someone would actively seek one out and pay a premium to own one. It was a nice car in its day with fine economy and chassis dynamics I just don't see it as a potentially collectable car worthy of a premium.

That's not too bad he only wants 7K - he could have had ambition! He could have been a contender...

If it is completely rust free and everything does indeed work and it's had some suspension work then I would say that it could be worth $6,000. If some of the rubber or suspension needs work then I would bump it down to $4,000 or $5,000. Miles are still a bit high for that price though so it would have to be exceptionally taken care of to warrant that price.

Actually I'll see your A and raise you a 1970s Valiant or Dart, vinyl seats, hubcaps and blackwalls, with a stick .

Or THIS:

Mercedes Motoring - 1976 240D Diesel Sedan

Yes. I had a '69 Dart Custom 2dr. HT, 318, 4-speed, Rallye suspension, pwr. disc brakes, 8-3/4" rear. I was the original owner and it was in original condition. Sold it for $10K in 2007 without even advertising it. It had 101K miles on it, still drove like new, no squeaks or rattles, original paint and vinly top still looked great. Only mods were 340 exhaust manifolds and a stainless dual exhaust system.

My uncle had a mint-condition Dodge Dart, and he loaned it to my Mom when her car was in the shop. We kids were also allowed to drive it. It was a great car, very reliable, etc.

However, I would humbly submit that a W123 is a much more well-built, well-designed, safer, tighter, and "worlds better" in terms of handling and comfort. I really liked the Dart.... and I understand that people have a great love for the Dart, but I would NOT trade my 240D, and believe that if I were reduced to only 1 car, I would choose the 240D.

Sincerely,

Packman

Hah! What I find interesting is this -- is it just me, or is there a trim panel missing?

I'm sure it's upholstered in leather, too. Got to be, right? It's a Mercedes!
