Ask the shop what measurement they want to work from. I'm guessing they'll want the measurement from the transmission flange (where the rubber disc bolts on) to the differential flange (where THAT rubber disc bolts on) with the weight of the car on the suspension (makes the total length shorter). They'll make accommodations for the slip yoke in the final length. But seriously, ask them. Some shops like to work from different dimensions.

thanks, but no thanks winmutt. I'm 16, remember? I'll try to find out how the shop measures, but how much have other people shortened it who have already done this swap.

Down here in atlanta they'd do it for roughly 150$ and it would be balanced. Surely there is a driveshaft shop somewhere in between here and Franklin that could do it for a reasonable amount

I'm a caffeine-free Diet Coke guy myself. Never developed a taste for beer - I really don't like it. Nor coffee. And I'm old enough to drink anything I feel like!

I got my driveshaft shortened 4" and I am very satisfied. They were really good about the price. It cost $70 shortening, and balance. Now I need to find a 240d auto crossmember. Also, how much do the shift linkages need to be shortened?

I bought the 240 auto crossmember and it DOESN'T fit. Its too narrow to reach the holes on the body. I'm not sure how others were able to use it.

I welded a piece on metal on each side to make mine fit. I can send you a pic of what I did(too large to post here).

Again don't spend the cash on a part your going to have to alter to work. You should just alter the part you already have.
Your best bet is to use the crossmember from the 240 4 speed like this guy did.

Your doing it wrong. The 240 auto crossmember was the right now.

Can you post a pic of the mount attached in your car?

I have the both of these cross members in this pic. The CM on the bottom is suppose to be from a 240 auto. in this pic you can see how short it is as compared to the one that does fit(even after the alteration on the top member).

My 240D manual crossmember looks like the top one. Isn't the lower one the mount for the driveshaft center bearing?

Not sure what I'll use in the S-10 but I'll probably start with the stock S-10 mount and see what works from there.
