That updated Oil Filter Housing Gasket is only 2-3 dollars more than the Victorrinze one; and, I am cheap and I think it is well worth the extra few dollars.

I can't remember if it was Hunter or Brian Carlton that spoke of taking a Sharpening Stone and creating a smoother surface with it.

Personally I was worried about getting some pieces of Gasket Material inside and into the Main Bearings. I would have the same worry concerning abrasive particles from a stone. I am not sure how some one could easily clean the lower smaller hole.
I did what I could with a Q-tip/Cotton Swab but the casting is sort of rough and would catch the Cotton.

My oil line nipples were removed from a po and they leaked bad....I assumed it was the block gasket I stuck on being trash.....I had to use blue lock tight to seal the threads....all my leaking has stopped and I have had no issues using lock tight...

I used as little RTV as humanly possible. I just put a little on the filter housing to make the gasket stick to it. I don't like putting that stuff on anything if I don't have to.

You must live out on the edge of town. I used to see scorpions like that all the time when I lived on the far east side of Tucson. Now I don't see any, living just a few miles from downtown. Lots of black widows, however, and they love making homes underneath our cars.

Nice write up. It's nice to be part of the no-leak club. After replacing my primer pump, I no longer have any leaks; at first I thought it was an oil leak because it was black as can be, but it turned out it was just the poor melting left-hand motor mount - the cost of allowing B99 to leak.

Regarding keeping the gasket in place while bolting the oil filter housing onto the block, I saw a kit advertised that had a long plastic cable tie included. I am guessing that it is used to hold the gasket in place by threading it through a bottom hole in the housing and through the gasket and back out through the other bottom hole in the gasket and the bottom hole in the housing. It can be fastened to hold the gasket tight while attaching the housing with the other three bolts, then cut and removed when you are ready to put in the bottom two bolts.

Can anyone tell me the proper torque for the five 10 mm hex head bolts that hold the triangular cap onto the housing that accepts the oil pressure line and the line to the turbo charger?

Is the recommendation to stay away from Teflon tape a concern about a piece breaking loose and getting into the engine workings? Just wondering.

yeah, that's a big part, but teflon tape is not suitable for oil. oil will creep along the layers of the tape. best is to use a mild hardening sealer like loctite blue.
DO NOT USE RED OR GREEN!!!
also, the non hardening sealer #2 should be fine as well.

I just gave up looking for a waffle gasket - couldn't find any online. It appears the images that are shown for OE type now are Victor Reinz paper composition with the waxy surface, though the prices are all over the map.

I just installed one that came in my gasket set from Pelican and it was the waffle-type. The kit is made by Elring (I keep wanting to call it "Oring"). I don't know if that gasket is available separately or only in the kit.

I stuck it place with Permatex Hi-Tack - great stuff for that job.

Do ya'll think copper coat (kote?) would be appropriate for the waffle gasket? Ive got the metal waffle gasket, and im wondering if copper coat could improve the seal like how it does on manifold gaskets.

I think for sure something is needed to stick the gasket in place.

Copper coat (kote?) sprayed on the Gasket ought to work and spread a nice even coat.

Otherwise I find copper coat (kote?) in the can to be rather messy and tends to apply a thick if nut uneven amount of stuff on the part increasing the chance of it squeezing out into an opening.
