1981 Mercedes 240D Oil Test results

I wasen't sure about the quality of my engine as I have knocks at the initial startup so I had a $30 oil test done after 5000KM.

I have 300,000+KM on the engine and I ruled out the knocking to be the injectors which I plan to replace soon. I'm so happy with these results, I will continue on restoring the car. If the engine had shown wear or coolant etc, I may have decided to sell.

I recommend a oil test/analysis and a compression test for anyone who seriously wants to know the quality and durability of the engine. With the cars starting to push 30-35years old, its very difficult to tell if previous owners have neglected anything. Coolant flush's and regular diesel rated oil changes are key on these vehicles.

I've used Blackstone Labs (IIRC ~$25). I know there's a few members on superturbodiesel who have done so as well.

Make sure you have decent fuel pressure to the base of the injection pump. I really believe it is a good ideal overall to make sure you have it. I like to see 15-19 pounds of fuel pressure.

Systems degrade with time. This one is cheap to restore if found to be substandard.

I have on my 240D. I need to scan the results so I can post them. I had elevated copper in one but normal in the second which indicates bearing failure but the car is running great and the second analysis was normal. I will have another sample in a few months since the car only gets driven about 3-4k per year.
