You won`t get an accurate Boost reading overreving the engine in the driveway. you need to get out on the Hwy and work the engine.

Get out of the stupid downtown SF and hit some open Hwy, so get on I-5 heading up towards Chico and blow the Cobwebbs out, swing by Corning and maybe there are still some fresh peaches on the trees.

Or maybe take a run I-80 to Truckee for breakfast, that would be a good run. or a little further to Reno or Boom Town and try your luck.

The 288 rear is a tall one for the first gear ration available at around 4 to 1. The hills in SF are not to be matched anywhere else. The turbo motor has the same or less torque taking off from a stop as the NA engine. If you want performance as the factory intended you'll need the 346 diff from the NA 300D for taking off on steep hills.

charlie, fine suggestions but i am nil on real freeway driving until i get the new roof panel in place (stripping and grinding wheels and panel epoxy acquired, still waiting for the gun). last time i gave it some gusto on 280, the sunroof flew out onto the shoulder~! so for now, it has just been san francisco and san mateo counties on surface streets.

PS, thanks for the differential, i know that is when it will shine. :-)

Yea, I think the small tires is the way to go. I'm thinking something like this would work nicely...

hehehe, paul, exactly.

as for the rest of it - after getting stuck on a hill this morning, i did some ALDA adjustment and it made a hell of a lot of difference. i can rev it up from a stop and off the line performance is significantly improved. i went as far as 1.5 turns CCW and the gains seemed to taper off. i could not really tell that smoke had increased; it's breezy. so i don't know if i went too far, yet, but it sure did help. if i was effectively starving the engine of fuel before, does that suggest i still have some restriction in the fuel system such as clogged injectors?

PS, throttle linkage looks tight enough, i didn't find any slop in there.

PS - one benefit of smaller tires is to lower the car without sacrificing any spring travel.
