$55k and the cheapest e class. Almost matches the v6 in hp and is just 20ftlb short of the v8. Also avail as 4matic. I'd prefer to see one without all the safety devices in the 35k range....

I believe there will be a c class too. I am hoping for a low thirties price and a six speed manual. It might be the first time every I could consider buying a new benz.

NO IGNITION KEY

I'd hack that thing in a second and put a w124 key in it.

I don't think ANY modern vehicles come with a key anymore... my mom's ford she just bought has none, nor did the GLK she was looking at.

looks like we've come full circle... the original fords had no key, I DOUBT the first MB's had a key to start... just a button for the starter, or they may have been hand cranks...

Then I want a giant, red master kill switch on the dash.

I was fine with the last GLK I drove, at least I got to put something that looked like a key fob into something else and torque it to turn the car on. This push button stuff drives me insane.

That would interest me as well. However, I already have a perfectly good car and need another one about as much as I need a hole in my head. And if I was going to spend that kind of money on a car, I would be choosing between a new Benz and a certain old Porsche I've been wanting since I first drove one.

Fuel economy is disappointing.

Highway mileage is close to what my bike gets.

What were you expecting?

I agree its good but not great.....there is gas models that get close to the same and don't require special blue liquid and have a spare tire....if they removed all the crap that the usa requires new diesels to have for smog, then I think you could get great mpg....

Its a nice car and I do like the diesel.....but I wouldn't want to own a new diesel, cost of owning a diesel car in these days are for the rich people....I will keep my clunker and dream..

From a practical stand point, modern hybrids have modern diesels beat by a mile. Hybrids are quicker, burn cheap fuel, get much better city fuel economy where most people live and have proven more reliable over the years. While I enjoy the fact that diesels are making a comeback in this country, Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM etc sell 10 hybrids for every diesel passenger car in the US.
It also appears that diesels popularity in Europe has started to decline.

http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1082978_are-diesel-cars-in-europe-starting-a-long-slow-decline

Quote:
Most smaller European diesels don't currently need urea injection, but new "Euro 6" emissions standards will arrive in September 2014.

They're roughly equivalent to U.S. standards that have seen urea injection fitted to every passenger diesel sold in the States except the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta and 2014 Mazda6 diesel.

The industry expects a further tightening of standards, with "Euro 7" already being discussed for 2020 or later. That will only make it harder and more expensive to build already-pricey diesel engines.

At some point, the extra expense of a diesel car simply won't be worth the extra money over increasingly efficient (and cheaper) gasoline vehicles--and the market will ebb.

My 18-yo E300D gets 28 around town and 30 to 32 on the road, almost as good as the 2014 model. I think it's strange that after steadily improving fuel economy up through the CDI models of ten years ago, Mercedes seems to be going backwards.
