W210 Headlight Upgrade/Manual trans??

Currently I have the standard non HID headlights. As far as I know, Euro and American headlights are the same for this vehicle. Is it worth buying aftermarket HID lights for this vehicle? I have found mixed reviews. Not looking to waste money on chinese ****, but I dont feel used OEM headlamps for this auto are worth $400+ a piece. What are peoples opinions?

My other question is about doing a manual changeover. Ive done a manual conversion in a W123 before and obviously W210 is a different animal. Has anyone done a changeover before, is it any harder than a W123? How hard is a manual to find? As far as i know they were only offered in Europe Are there any other MB manual trans I could use?

User "Klaus Kallus" has swapped a manual into the 210. Not physically difficult but you have to overcome the fact that the ECU is going to be angry about the missing transmission connection...

There are companies that make custom chips for these cars. It may be possible to remove references to the automatic trans in the program.

W210 is too computerized to play with, without having access to custom programming, and the factory programmer (STAR DAS system).

Auto to manual swap will require re-chipping the ECU as KarTek says.

Changing lights from Incandescent to HID will require version coding of the SAM module or else it will throw a bulb out error. This will require Star Das.

An alternative is to pick your target car as a 1995 W124 E300D. You will have the 606 engine (but it will be N/A) however, you will have no computers to mess with.

You should be able to use the 6-speed from the C 230.

Can I code the SAM module myself? A simple search has brought up software I can purchase on ebay. Without having done a in depth research, can I take a computer module from a W210 that used HID lights? My W210 is a Diesel so would the 6spd from a nondiesel c-class hand the torque output?

Yeah, the 6-speed should be good with the torque.

I suppose that depends on the 210. A '96 E300 has a 722.4 which AFAIK doesn't communicate with the ECU.

The ECU in this car can't be flashed, it requires a chip (EPROM) like the old cars. (this is my understanding)

My $30 chinese **** hid kit has 18,000 miles on it so far without fault. DO NOT buy anything above 4500k color (aka anything blue) and stick with a 35w kit if you have plastic reflectors and lenses.

If you have an OM606, any W124, W201 or on M111 W203 6spd will fit.

Not with an OM606. Thats the simplest, least computerized W210 sold in the US. The auto is still uses the same 722.3 as the diesels before it.

They sell a bulb out error fix device for the hid kit. See above.

The '96 is the older 4 speed auto, the '97 and up is the 722.6 5 speed.
