For Me I have had to do more repair work on My Mercedes than any Car I had previously owned.
I think that is because the only benz cars some of us can afford are the ones that people never maintained and can / will have more problems than most

My engine should (i was told ) has around 100K now ....
and seems to always start easy even when vary cold 0f

started running crappy again ,,,
lots of torque but low hp ..
so pulled the IP .
looks like lots of differences in pumps ...
biggest being (old style) pump has a oil line and newer one doesnt ..

put old same Ip back on ..
appears the timing way off ? had to bend the lines a lot ...

and my starter locked up after 15 sec of cranking to bleed the lines ...
should have it running tomarrow ..

Does the newer pump have an oil reservoir? A red screw cap. Is it a M pump can you tell?

the Newer pump is the one on the engine (84 pump )

other pump i had is a 76 has a old line ..

decided it was too many mods to use the 76 one , so i was going going to try to retime the 84 one as it seems to be off by a lot ...

Is your fuel gelled?
Could your spin-on filter be dirty?

Both of those would lower your peak hp

But no , from the time it was running good until it wasnt it ran just diesel with nothing added .

Truck does burn a small bit of oil ... 1q per 1k miles or so .
I think that is valve seals ..

The Injectors/ washers had lots of carbon buildup on them that was dry flaking looking
1qt per 1,000 miles is not a small bit of oil, that's a ton for a 617 diesel. All of ours burn/leak barely that much in 5,000 miles!

No fuel is fine ... seems to be thin as it should be ..
I do change filters more often than i need to ,, so it cant be that .

Actually it may be more like ever 2-3k . I almost never add any , just sometimes ...
Also There is NO blowby to speak of at all ...

Well i had a 240D once that would burn 1Q every 300 miles ,. LOL

Should the timing be set at 24 or 26 ? ... My Hanes only has numbers for the 616 and 615 ..

I believe it is somewhere around 26 degrees. Timing counts for a lot and it could cause some of your original symptoms. If you don't know what your timing is, you might want to find out before condemning an IP.

Some of us performance nuts turn it up to 28*, but it varies from engine to engine. If it knocks (hard noise) then you need to retard the timing.
