a working block heater and a timer are what you want if you don't already have one. I am feeling the pinch as well having ripped the cord out of my block heater through stupidity. When I had it, it made all the difference in the world.

I got one of those timers that can be programmed for every day of the week (home depot has them), so it comes on at 5am, and shuts off at 9am, I usually leave at 830 or so, and the car fired every time, regardless of negative temps or not.

New oil & mine started immediately but it's only down to +12F. It wouldn't start last time at that temp.

Either put the extension cord over your driver's mirror, or rig up a breakaway cord:

My 602 didn't have any trouble starting int the cold last time we had the -15 F temps. This was after sitting for like 9 hours at work. At home I had the block heater on it from 3am to 7am when I left.

If you've done all those things and the valves are properly adjusted, you probably are at the low end of compression. My 617 starts just fine at 0F, and I've not even done a valve adjustment in about 15-20k miles.

Other possibilities:

-not glowing long enough, I go at least 30 seconds in those temps
-not cranking long enough, you have to keep it going for a while
-weak/old starter not spinning engine effectively

Ealier this week there was an office memo. Apparently some jacka$# EV owner unplugged the pipe wrap cord to plug their car in. The pipe wrap that wrapped around the sprinkler system. Now we are no longer able to plug in.

What REALLY pisses me off is I have suffered through rough cold starts at work now for 3 years, not realizing if I parked in a different place I'd have access to an outlet.

NOW some POS EV owner has ruined it for EVERYONE. *SHAKES FIST*

Not dissing EVs or owners but I have seen a few problems with the EV or hybrid drivers.

1 - when I worked in toyota about every month there would be a Prius on a tow truck rolling in just to find out it had run out of gas - apparently the owners thought it never takes gas.

2 Same cars also had some really nasty oil change issues - as the same owners thought it did not have an engine in it.

3 - They constantly try to preach me about how bad my diesel is to the environment, I literally want to get me a 1.6VW rabbit - up the fuelling, point the exhaust to them and let the black genie surround their stupid car.

4 - They are known to damage the cords at the Nissan dealership near my house (wife's car has free oil change etc, and every single time I go there the port is being repaired because someone forgot to remove the plug from their "LEAF" before driving off.

If your sprinkler pipes are dependant on an unmonitored extension cord you've got bigger problems.

Bring it up to get 'plugin' spots at work-and write the newspaper that your company is providing plug power for "green" vehicles. Good PR, and you get a plugin.
