I'm not clowning the W116, I think we had just driven it daily for so long that it was time to upgrade to something more modern, more powerful and with greater safety features. A car like the W116 belongs in the hands of a collector, not being attacked by shopping baskets all day long.

The W210 has plenty of power, and it probably seems faster than it is after driving the OM617 for as long as we did, but my wife insists that we vent all available funds towards recovering from foreclosure losses and buying a new property, so a new car payment was not in the cards.

The E34 cost me nothing and it was in great shape, but had a difficult to find electronic issue with the DMW/EWS systems. It's a great handling car, very neutral and has surprising power from the tiny 2.5 litre DOHC straight-six and great mileage too.

It's a season of change!!!!

Funny, neither of these get as good a highway mileage as my 2001 Mustang GT 4.6 litre V8...

Daily Driver Update:

Refinished the wheels on the BMW E34 yesterday. They were pretty rough, after 18 years of abuse, but after a lot of prep, they actually came out nicely...

Finish is 2014 Bentley Bright Titanium Glasurit 55 Line Solvent-Based BC/CC...

Wow!@

The RennTech Stage 1 Power Package ECU Upgrade is amazing. The idle speed is slightly higher now and where you could feel the engine running at idle, it is now totally smooth, which I believe is due to richer idle strategy. Tailpipe emissions are still almost non-existent.

Power was good before, but now the car reacts more like my 1970 Porsche 911S in that when the RPM come up to 2800-3000, the car comes on like it has been rear-ended by a cement truck - much stronger pull than before. Shift points also appear to be raised too, hitting right around 7,000-7,100 on the upshifts by the in-dash tachometer.

Fuel economy, during normal driving, appears unchanged...
