Ok, final update.
Success! Got everything put back together and checked for binding, everything felt good. I did notice that on the old chain the tensioner was on the final (read largest) setting in order to keep tension, with new chain it is on the first or smallest adjustment. Big difference in amount of slack. Initial report is that the car sounds good! Haven't taken it on the road yet but it sounds smoother I think. On the down side, I have a small coolant leak... But in the scheme of things I'm glad the engine is running again. Thanks again for the help, couldn't have done it without y'all. |

You did not mention if you replaced the Timing Chain Tensioner Rail; that would be the large one in the is shown in the Diagram that was in one of the earlier posts.
