Got the motor mounts and oil lines out. Unfortunately I wont have time til Sunday to finish everything. I also had a friend power wash the bay again. Slow progress is better than no progress.

Question: Can the fuel hard lines be polished? I want to clean them up somehow or even paint them, as long it looks clean.

I think the fuel lines are ZPG plated, or at least they look like it, no clue on polishing. Last edited by snorider; 09-09-2014 at 09:13 PM. |

Note on the down pipe I'm using a stainless braided flex connection to replace the stock flex line which broke off just like yours. Just measured carefully to order the right one and welded it in. After two years and 50k miles the paint is holding up quite well. Here's a recent shot of the engine...

I soaked them in parts cleaner for 2 days and they are still ugly. I will pick up that emory cloth this week and try it this weekend. I just don't want to damage the lines. Quote:
Oh I like what you did with the downpipe. Did you sand blast that too before the paint? And what paint did you use? Ive heard POR-15 makes good manifold paint. |

No, I don't have a blast cabinet that large so just used a serious wire brush and some sand paper. I used VHT Header paint. The silver color holds up nice, the black not so much.

Sand blasting should work, I would just be wary of any particles getting in the lines.
And the seal at the nuts.

Gotta find someone with a sandblaster now that wont charge or will not charge me much to use it. Last night i went out to the storage for a few hours. I finally got the new motor mounts in!!!! The drivers side mount was the hardest. The inner bolt was in such an tight position, but once again a mechanic is only as good as his tools; so I brought more. After getting the new mounts in the engine practically sits up 2 inches higher now. I didn't feel like missing with that area anymore so I put the new steering dampener on as well. |

Its been a pretty good day. I finally got a friend out to give me a hand. Big thanks to Alex my co-worker. We got the rear sway links off and replaced. Then we watched the transmission mount fall right out from under the car. That thing was completely collapsed!!! Im going to take it to work tomorrow and put the bracket in the parts washer for a few hours. Really happy with the progress over the pass week. And now for pics.

I cleaned up the transmission mount bracket and installed the new one. Ended up using the jack and some wood blocks to lift the transmission. Afterward I change the rear diff oil. The axle boot aren't too bad. Maybe next year the axles will get done. But let me explain my stupidity before I get to far. So im changing the rear diff using one of the those cheap pumps for AutoZone, the tube wasnt long enough to pump and be comfortable to I attached an extension. Perfect, so i thought. When i got finished pumping the fluid the the rear I pulled the tube out. Only to discover the extension is now stuck in the rear diff. I wish i had more time today but this will have to wait til tomorrow.

Yes, I am enjoying your work as well.
I bought an '83 300TD some months back, and have turned it into a daily driver... BEFORE sorting things. I've also moved to another state, and haven't yet located a sympathetic garage, so I am living vicariously through you.... |
