Progress!!

Dan has been doing some amazing work over the past few days.

here is the feature page:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Binder-Boneyard/498310196892173

i am soooo psyched that everything is going to fit so well
i'll be able to do a valve job and change the oil from inside the rig
the power steering assembly and fuel filter are off to easy install ... but they fit wonderfully inside the engine bay
and here are some picts of the progress so far ...

cheers
geoff

I'm such a derp. I read the title and thought Metro was a Geo Metro. I couldn't understand how one could get a 617 in a Geo Metro or why.

Perhaps Geoff will start another thread when I get it installed and get the 4 wheel drive conversion going.

I can't tell from the pics... is that a shorty?

If it were my project, it would be like this with a 6bt pulling the front end off the ground.

But, this one will try to remain stock height as possible. It will be 4wd when I'm done with it, so it will be a few inches taller but nothing obscene.

It looks like you've done quite a bit of bodywork on the van so far - if I remember rightly it looks better than it did in your other threads - got any more pictures of the chassis and bodywork?

Good memory, Stretch!
here is a thread on the binder planet:
1946 K1 Metro Restoration Thread - Binder Planet Forums

it has some before/during/after shots of the body work
here are a few:

the chassis is still pretty raw... and no real work has been done on the drivetrain as of yet.

oh ... and to stop all the nonsense of the chopped and lowered ... here is what it will look like ... Dan convinced me to go up (a bit) with 4X4 versus go down and lower it. in an ideal world ... this is also the paint scheme i'll have

oh ... and just for reference, the 617 will have about 2X the horsepower and about 30% more torque than the original flathead 6 ...

cheers and thanks to all...
any comments/questions/suggesting/cynics welcome

Shame I can't see all the pictures in that thread on the other forum (sorry I don't want to join another!) but those pictures showing the rust on the steps are pretty scary - I guess it used to move when you stepped on it (but not any more)

yep ...
those steps got hammered day in and day out for decades!
here are a few more of those 'WIP' picts of the step
Mike Roth did the first whack at bodywork ... and we only had so many pictures ...

Mike was way to busy with his angle grinder to take pictures!
other than those spots ... there was very very little cancer...
cross my fingers that this thing will last many many more years (decades)

cheers
g
