Ads on the forum? Seriously?

I am getting third-party ad feeds laced between posts and in some cases, embedded into posts when I look at threads.

Is this a new 'feature' or some bizarre glitch?

I have not seen them but I do use Adblock. I had forgotten how well it works until I logged onto Facebook on my wife's ipad, which does not have it. There were ads everywhere. I do not see that on my desktop using Adblock.

I turned off Ad Block Plus to see what you were asking about, and sheesh, they are pretty tacky. I just checked one thread, but there were "fake" posts which were just ads and then the ads you mentioned imbedded into other people's posts. For all I know though, it may have been this way for ages.

I am not a huge fan of the revised layout of the initial landing page, and the ads definitely are not enhancing the forum experience. But I guess we are at the whim of the site owner.

I guess I would just recommend using some sort of ad blocking software (like ABP in firefox). It was easy to set up and seems to do its job remarkably well.

I figured they were some kind of worm or something and just didn't click on any of them.

i use adblock and the site is very clean. i thought the forum was sponsored by purchasing parts. ads seem unnecessary.

I only have the banner Ad's which are above and below the thread. I know that BW does have some in the posts there sometimes.

On BW you get ads displayed unless you contribute ($$$) to the forum. But my understanding is that BW is not run by an auto parts company. Someone tell me if it's otherwise, I have not spent much time over there.

I am hoping Tom is right and it's some sort of worm. I have a vague recollection that this occurred before, years ago, right after the Pelican transfer of the forum to their servers.

If you are seeing ads laced in between the posts, your browser is likely hacked, with spyware.

Lamp Defective Message. I want to scream and scream and scream and then scream again

Post 17 in the above thread has a sniffer, I wonder if that is the gateway for the issue. ( I am not getting the extra ads.) Even if it isn't, sniffers like that should be banned as they serve no purpose and are mildly antagonistic. ( " I'm watching you and you can't do anything about it." )

No ads here using Firefox on a MAC. No idea if either of those kill the ads. I'm pretty much a computer dunce so I don't think I have an ad blocker but I might.......

No ads on BW if you use adblocker.

Can you point out which is the sniffer in #17?

The sig image sniffer isn't doing anything to make pop up or inline ads appear. YOUR BROWSER has to be hacked, if ads are appearing.

The "say what?" Browser/ip identifier in that poster's sig must be what he is talking about
