trunk liner
I've seen a bunch of posts about sunroof issues but can't find any about removing the trunk liner. How do you get the liner out to address sunroof issues? 1981 300D.

are you talking about the plastic thing that fits into the wheel well? it should just sorta bend and get pulled out.it takes a little bit of force.

Thanks. I'll try that, I'm always leery of bending plastic everything is so brittle.

You really don't want to bend it out.
First start by removing the panel behind the fuel tank at the back of the trunk think it was 4 8mm nuts. Next your panels on the sides might have the original push pins that are under the tail lights, you will need to pry the center push pin out and then the outer pin will pull off. Next you can just reach your hand under the upper edge of the quarter panel, pull down and the side liners will come right out. When you have all the panels out, it is a good idea to shop vac the areas and clean the drains. Now what is wrong with your sunroof that you need to get to the motor?

oh weird, i guess the PO removed all those nuts and bolts, mine just press fits in and pulls out. you probably want to not do that if you have the hardware still installed

I think the clutch needs tightening. It needs help closing. They say to tighten with roof open some?

Ah don't tighten the clutch....you have to service the sunroof....you will need to remove the roof, remove the motor, dis assemble and degrease everything and then re-grease. I use white lithium grease.
This is totally typical, after all these years the grease gets old and filled with dirt/grime and will cause sunroof issues... Here's a DIY on removing the sunroof and the pdf on how to unlock the roof to get it out.. PeachPartsWiki: Sunroof Repair 77-100.pdf
