Attaching hubcap clips

I have bruised fingers. There must be a better way!

What is the secret to attaching the metal clips to the hubcaps shown below (as stolen from the WWW) on a 240D? I am going to try a clamp and a block of wood to protect the finish at lunch, but I'm a skeptic.

Also, while attempting to replace the retaining clips, I noticed that when the clip was busted the edge of the hubcap was also dented pretty good. If anyone has a used cap (any colour - mine are all candidates for a repaint) I may be in the market for one.
