Unhappy medical warning

This has nothing to do with MB's but thought I would warn you all just in case. Last week I was out for a walk and a tendon in my foot tore for no apparent reason. This is going to lay me up for 4 wks or more. Did some research on this and found out certain antibiotics will cause this. I had been plagued with a sinus infection for months and my doctor put me on a high powered antibiotic for two weeks. Got rid of the infection but two days after I stopped taking the med, the tendon tore. Thought I would warn members. I would rather have put up with the sinus problem than be crippled for weeks.

This happened to my mother as well. Her Achilles tendon was sprained and it swelled up like a softball. She recovered though, thankfully.

After the Fact did the Doctor give you any sort of percentage if someone getting that particular side effect?

2 Weeks ago I was speaking with a Nurse and we got on the subject of Newer Drugs and I commented on how the Newer Drugs seem to have a lot of awful side effects especially when you hear the Ads on TV.

yup!

Me too, I am currently in a "boot" as a result of antibiotic and prednesone for sinus infection. I have now had an MRI and am awaiting results.

STAY AWAY From major anti biotics. Risk factors are higher with steriod..and "60 years" or so and up.

this happened 5th day into 10 day prescript. Went to bed one night and got up next a.m. and ouch..

Doctor Mengele's heritage is alive and well, i bet he'd be really impressed with the scale of experimentation the pharmaceutical industry has been conducting on us.

I appreciate you posting it here - a good reminder.

That reminds me - a good friend is just now pulling thru a nasty case of shingles and I don't think he's 50 yet. So it can get you younger guys, too. Anyhow, it got me off my fanny and into the doc to get my shingles shot. Worth doing if you can. At least I THINK it'll be worth doing - I'll have to see how all that works out.

hmm, my better half says that there are maybe 4 strains of flu in the flu shot and maybe a hundred of strains around and all of them mutate constantly. but maybe shingles is a different story..

Loneranger needs to keep documentation on what happend to Him incase there is a Class Action Law Suit later that He can collect on.

I would go on the Internet and look up the side effects of the Shingles Shot.

When new Drugs come out the Drug Companies do an Ad Campaign on the Docs.

The Docs get curious and instead of using some common drug that also works will try the new to see what happens.

Ah phewy....be lucky that is all you have to deal about....

Look at the drug enbrel....

I take this, serious side effects....worst thing I can die of a cold...

On the other side of the scale....if I don't take this medication my immune system will eat my body...

Did I forget to say it cost 3k a month? Right now I have to live with my mother and be homeless in order to get my meds....until disability...

So grand to be 30 and have some rare disease.....

So my reason for rattlin on....is that you guys are worried about them side effects

Cooljay - Believe me, I know I'm a lucky guy. Diabetes and a failing heart but it's controllable and so far I can do what I want to, pretty much. Sorry you're having this pain in the butt but rock on and do the best you can.

Oh - and guys, I did look up the side effects before getting the shot. No guarantee you can't get shingles after the shot but your odds go WAY down and there are few if any KNOWN side effects. The unknown ones - we'll, we'll see.

Thanks!

I tell people all the time, I would rather have HIV or some other controllable disease. This disease was so unknown, that I didn't start early enough on treatment. So I have lost a knee, have permanent bone damage to my feet and multiple bone cyst. I hate to call my self disabled at 30, but I have to face it. I loved landscaping and it was my career...now I can't even write a letter. The more stress I am the worst I get. I keep looking forward to my disability settlement so I can get a cheap home somewhere and start a garden like leather posted....but with different adjectives...I have dealt with these veggie heads in Cali...not so fun...
