Somehow, for the seven to eight years that I've been subscribed to EPC I've never had any access problems. Nothing like this thread mentioned and nothing like other threads have mentioned. I don't know what I do differently lol.

Right now on this machine I have Java 7 Update 51.

I go to the EPC website, log in, click launch, a JNLP file is downloaded, and Java starts up.

I get a few warnings about "Do you want to run this application" I hit run on all of them.

In this machine's case it warns me that my Java version is out of date (which it is) and that I can update, block the content, or worry about it later. I clicked later.

The Java 7 splash screen popped up and then the EPC loading screen shows. A few seconds later. BAM

So now I am going to update Java to 8 Update 25. I will have it uninstall older versions too. Pretty much the same dance as before.

End result

I think the EPC respects/fears you because you're an EE!

Now I need to learn how to use the EPC and get the most out of it. Where do I start? I had to enter the VIN of my 85 300D to get rolling, but I can't seem to get it set on the North American model, it always defaults to Japanese model. The numbers on drawings of the parts do not match the the numbers of part description ( on the left column).
I usually type in the chassis model like 124128 and it will take me to the sections for it. Here it will ask for market and sometimes before/after date. Then you just drilldown by system and drawings. The numbers on the diagrams should correspond to items on the left side. There are a few columns of data on the left side. You have the item number, the part number/text description and then a quantity column.

There is also a 'where-used' function that is very helpful. You can punch in a part number and see what other cars it was used on. Part numbers need to be prefixed with an A though.

Maybe! I do a lot of software work too.

I was looking in my java settings, my security is set on high, no exceptions.

I have one trusted certificate, from snap-on business solutions.

You might consider turning on the java console when you are trying to open the EPC. This will allow you to see what its doing. Maybe paste parts here or something

They would update Security Certificates Necessary for access to JAVA as soon as required.
According to my Java, SBS has a valid certificate:

Setting up the EPC is not hard. You need to go here:

https://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/subscribe.jsp

and subscribe for a year. It is free to the US but will ask for credit card to verify your location. I've been using it for 8 years, no charges ever.

Once that is done you'll log in and they'll give you a link to click to launch the EPC.

It'll start up Java and hopefully will launch.

You might need to update past Java 6. I'm not sure. Give it a try and see what it does.

I've done that as far as I can tell, and this is the error code I get...

"C:\DOCUME~1\DAVIDU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\launchRetailFactoryEWA.jnlp

Invalid Menu Handle"

I assume this means I am still not associating these programs right, but my screens look different than what EPC net sent me.

Now for some serious Crow Consumption !

J.D. is correct there is a valid security certificate for S.B.S.

and if you go to the Security> Advanced tab of Java
and scroll down to the Listing:
"Secure Execution Environment"
and ENABLE
"Show Site Certificate from Server Even if Valid"

When the security Prompts come up during the EPC loading process you'll
be able to click on the "More Information" and then the "Show Certificate
Details" and view the Trusted Certificates.

Of course this adds a little more time to the Loading. So if you're in a hurry...

IE is saving the jnlp file to a temporary folder you might want to try seeing if you can force it to save the file to a different location. Both my Chrome and Firefox installs save the jnlp file to the downloads folder and then execute it from there.

Not sure if that will actually help you but it is worth a try.

Holy Crap, we got EPC running! After 4 months of messing with it, my future BIL who is Much sharper with computers than I am helped me for about 3 hours and we got it up and running... I think I understand a few reasons why I had trouble...

1) I was going to a wrong link for logging in to EPC... The link I needed to use was the one they sent me with all my log in info...

2) The CC I was using was out of date; dunno if that affected it, but it accepted it as payment, so... *shrug*

3) I had downloaded Java a bunch of times, had to clear all of them out and start again.

4) We got Malware Bytes instead and ran that, dunno how much the malware affected it, but it did hit on 54 items.

5) Cleaned out both browsers, AVG did a number there...

6) Downloaded Java 7 update 25, which was said to work well with EPC and XP.

7) There's probably more, but I don't know what for sure...

Hopefully this helps some other poor sap with XP...

I hope you are having similar successes; Merry Christmas...
