An OBDII code reader not getting full / correct info from the car is nothing specific to Mercedes. Heck, it's not even specific to German makes... any modern domestic car will have syphocated diagnostics that a generic reader will have trouble making heads or tales off.
The availability of an inexpensive, high quality scan tool is one of the reasons I have so many VWs -J

And I'd rather see a 240D, or even an original Chrysler K-car in my driveway, than one of today's trendy, bulbous, lizard-faced creations.
