The first pic shows the new o ring installed and everything all lubed up

I have seen write ups on replacing this piston while the trans is in the car..For me, unless the the valve body and divider plate are removed, it is impossible to see if the piston and pin are in place correctly..

I didn't take a picture of the piston installed, or the cover installed..But it is pretty obvious on how it all goes in..

The last pic shows the plastic guide piece in place..It's job is to keep the band moving straight and not going crooked in it's movement..

Here is another shot of the plastic guide thing in place..1st pic

Ready to install the selector shaft ..new seal first install..comes in the master kit..

Then the shaft is installed and locked in place with the bolt..Make sure the system moves smoothly and you should be able to put the tranny in park by rotating the shaft towards the rear..

In the last pic..on the right edge, you can just see the piston and pin in place.

The only things that is missing around the outside perimeter are the neutral safety switch and the green modulator valve..I think that is it..

Those are easy and I will pass on showing those..If you have done all of this so far..installing the switch and mod valve are easy..

In post #158 you covered the kickdown solenoid. I had a quick question on how the wire attaches to the solenoid. The insulation on the wiring, for mine, has become extremely brittle and bare in places. I would like to replace the wire but was unsure of how it attaches to the solenoid. Pulling on the boot only produced another bare section in the insulation.

Great write up! I've been studying this as you've gone along, thinking this task was in my near future. Fortunately, I found a sticking kickdown switch, at the pedal, due to carpet interference. I may even buy a used transmission to rebuild and have on hand.

I really didn't look at the solenoid, just cleaned it and put it back together..As I was yanking the engine and tranny out, I just cut the wire..

I figure at the factory that the car is going down the line..Engine and tranny drop in and someone below hooks all the wires up to the tranny..The neutral safety switch is a plug in and so should the Solenoid..

Here is another close up of my solenoid and a picture of a new one from a online parts house..Looks like it just plugs in..

The transmission is on it's back with it's belly facing upwards

You will see in those earlier posts all the plastic pieces that need to go back in..

After all that is done, then it is time to open up the lower valve body with the intermediate plate..

now on posts 38-42..I divided the intermediate plate (9) and the lower cover. You can see the 4 bolts that are used to sandwich the mount cover plate(5),the 2 gaskets..The big gasket(8) and the smaller gasket(14) for the lower cover..

Remember when I took the lower cover off, there was no gasket (14)installed there..

It is time to clean all of this up and put it back together..

I will start making some nice pictures of all this..

We are going to totally disassemble the lower cover piece..There is 2 screen pieces and a special round looking valve that was removed earlier..I had them stored in a plastic Ziploc bag..

Here is a great shot from the manual in regards to everything that is involved tearing apart the lower cover..

Parts 27 and 25 are those 2 screens and that round valve..

We are going to take apart the 2 spool assemblies..One at a time..

OMG thank you for this very particular fine detail and photos
having realized that my 722.315 was missing those two tiny thimble screens
nowhere on the internet is there a photo of the original part

but I managed to find what I thought was an easy replacement on a parts catalog...



only to find out they are totally different, they are about the same size but they have all this exta plastic on the outside that doesnt fit into the little hole on the plate of the 722.315

the original part is of course not available anymore and unless I find someone with a old valve body laying around seems I might be SOL, but at least now I know im not crazy.

Threads like this are what make Peach what it is. This even after all these years is simply the best most thought out how to on taking on this project. Thanks for all the time that was put into this.
