Humbly submitted for your scrutiny.
Hi guys,
If I know anything about this forum, you guys have eyes for detail. I just finished a set of beauty shots for my car. I therefore cautiously submit it to you guys for scrutiny. What do you guys think? Here's the link: My Manilla Beige 240D Sincerely, Packman

Texture on the steering wheel. Nice. Mine is worn smooth after 341,000 miles.
Same color as my 300D. But your headlight doors are quite fresh looking, and your wheels are quite clean. Straight sheetmetal, interior looks very nice. What's up with the wood shift knob? Cadmium plating under the hood and exhaust black paint are largely missing, but I'm being very nit-picky here. Hood pad appears to be non-original. Overall: Damn, that thing looks good. Mine is much rougher, and likely to get worse. I haven't track-stripped it yet, but the possibility always remains.

I had an 82 for 15 years and so I know how difficult it is to keep them clean, especially the engine bay. It looks great....in remarkably good condition. They just don't do paint like they did on those cars anymore. My 98 C280 is losing clear coat badly.

Did you also notice the W123 tachometer/clock! My favorite mod. Thanks to Funola for the writeup on how to do that!
Packman.

I have one that looks close to yours, I got it off a 85 Saab 5-spd. Yeah I noticed your Tach, jumped right out at me. Been going to do that to mine. Charlie sent from my pos computer

A beauty- it's obviously in great shape! It's better detailed than my car, which is pastel beige. Thanks for putting these pictures up.
I noticed that, like me, it looks like you used house plumbing pipe insulation for the big A/C line that runs between the fan shroud and valve cover. That seems like a fairly easy and inexpensive solution for when the original insulation disintegrates. FYI, the foam insulation is also made in a black foam rubber material, which I switched mine to. I like the appearance of the black material a little more- looks closer to the stock insulation. It holds up very well, also.

Hi guys, I'm planning to sell my Manilla Beige 240D. What do you guys reckon it's worth?
Thanks, Packman

I'll reply, just to give you a bump back to the top and see if the experts chime in on value. I have a similar 240D, but not as clean as yours, and it's an auto trans. with around 170K miles. It's basically been turning into a barn find in my mom's garage for the last few years. I drive it every 3 months or so and it runs great. It's extremely well maintained, has working AC, and even changed the timing chain a few years back. That actually made a big improvement.
So, all systems working normally, no real leaks or deferred maintenance, zero rust, no rips/tears/cracks, etc. Never wrecked or hurt in any way. I still think I'd be lucky to get what paid for it ~ 10 years ago = $1,500. No telling what I've put into it over time, probably ~$4K or more............. These cars just don't have a lot of collector value it seems. That said, it's still a fun car to drive. On a fall afternoon, touring the twisty roads of the Ozarks, nothing rides like a W123. Good luck! Clay
