Will you have to shut the AC off before entering a highway?

Well I think since AC was available as a factory option it should be fine, now the fact that there aren't that many highways in the European country where the car is lol

It can be used as a Jake Brake also.

I solved that problem long ago....
you attach to your shifter a switch on the drivers side where your thumb fits...
it is a normally closed switch to your AC compressor.... when starting up from a light.. you press on it which stops the comopressor clutch from being engaged.... your hand is right there shifting anyway.... and if you need power for integrating traffic you just push on the switch....
I used this on my Karman Ghia with homemade AC.... 40 hp....

Found this listing on CL for a 240D manual CC box.

Mercedes 123 Chassis AC Box

Mercedes 123 Chassis AC Box - $250 (berkeley)

The guy doesn`t show the front controls, but this is what is under the dash
for those that have never seen one.

There is even the part# 123-830-39-58 I doubt it would still be available.

You can pull one at PNP for around $60.

Or install what GM used in their more underpowered vehicles - like the original Chevy Vega - a compressor cut-out switch on the carburetor, adjusted to shut off the compressor past a certain throttle opening. On a 240D, it could be mounted somewhere to the accelerator linkage and adjusted as desired. This could also be kind of a fuel-economy aid - hard acceleration = less AC, easy acceleration = more AC.

Happy Motoring, Mark

As previously mentioned, avoid the early 'evil servo' ac equipped cars. I'm pretty sure the condenser, fan and heater/evap cores and compressor (gm style) are all the same parts manual vs. auto.

The box Charlie posted is the one I have, though it's missing the duct work parts and looks like the heater core has been taken out of it. Note, only one vac connection for the recirc door vs. 20+ vacuum and pod connections on an auto system. Almost all vac is replaced with cables on the manual system.
