Well, mine's from the song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl9bvuAV-Ao

The story goes like this. In 2003, I bought my VW Vanagon, which I named Magic Bus, after the song. Shortly thereafter, I signed up for a few online VW forums/message boards and used that for my username. Since then, I've kept it as my username on pretty much every automotive forum I'm a member of.

I've actually owned and driven Mercedes longer than that - back to 1996, when I got my first 240D (1982 automatic). But, we've had both Mercedes diesels and VW vans in the family for far longer. My parents bought their first VW bus (a used '73) sometime around 1975, and bought their 240D (which they still have) in 1980.

My first name actually is Jay.

The _bob came from a neighbor from the early 90s, for some reason she always called me Jay-Bob.

And the tag line comes from my job, I am an application engineer for a major electrical equipment manufacturer and specialize in control systems for power switchgear. I do the control designs, write controller code, develop touchscreen interactive graphics, and go out to the field for startup and commissioning.

Many of the systems I designed are installed in data centers and other industrial facilities, and perform the automatic switching from utility to generator power.

Due to NDAs I can't go into the the details, but chances are at least one of the servers you interacted with on the Internet today got its power delivered through something I designed.

Although my wife swears that the tag line means I am totally OCD. But it helps to be with the job I do.

I used to sell stuff at the flea market. Fun times. Walking around with pockets full of cash looking for a deal.

I picked Desel911 because when I first got on the Forum, despite My previous mechanical experience I was desperate for information and felt I was going to need some in depth help. So it would be like me calling 911 for help.

By that thinking I should be FN FAL

Well, both of those threads are in OD... And they come with a lot of ot, OD conversations... Most of the names in there never even post in DD... should I merge the DD names, to this list, or just let everyone start over here?

Well, years ago, when internet gaming was in its infancy, there was an amazing company called Bungie, who had an amazing game called Myth. This was way before MS X-Box, which by the way bought out Bungie to get its game...HALO.

Anyways, back then, we were all older men...I think the oldest was 40 at the time (compare that to the tweens who play games these days) and we had a clan called the Harajuku Drinkers. My screename was zu, which was short for Zuriel, who is an angel known as the Rock of God.

So there. I've always wondered what happened to my HD buddies...

Mechmagcn= Mechanical Magician
I am a self-employed mechanic that works on heavy duty trucks and heavy equipment. Used to have a customer who ran a lot of old, obsolete junk. One day the manager told me that I was a mechanical magician to keep all of that stuff running, the name started out as my handle on the CB and just stuck. Its been my screen name ever since I signed up to the first internet service that was offered in my area.
