What is this vacuum line?
So yesterday I was mucking around with my signal lamps and noticed this fuel filter here.
I never thought about it much as it was there (and disconnected) when I got the car. Then I noticed something I hadn't noticed before. See that loose hose above the filter? I figured I might have pulled it out from there. So I plugged it back into the hose. What is it for? It appears that the fuel filter side of it connects to the two silver canisters in the picture. What do those do? As for the other hose, it goes all the way into the cabin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

thats no fuel filter! its a sight into the vacuum system so you can see if there is any oil... basically if you have oil in your vacuum system you vacuum pump is either blown or an its way out.
all that junk (silver cannisters) are for the egr.. tear it all out along with your egr.. helps the life of your engine and the simplicity of the vacuum system |

I assume this is on your 87 300D W124?
Not familiar with that body, but I would guess the 2 black things are vacuum actuators for something. The filter is probably for a source of clean air. One`s I have seen on a W123, there is a black plastic line going into the cabin for the source of clean air. A W124 expert will come along shortly. HMMMM.... Jack posted same time as I did. Yes these can be a filter between the Fuel Shut off Vacuum actuator and the Ignition Switch assy. If the actuator Diaphram ruptures, the filter will show the oil.Hopefully you can catch it before doing damage. One can be added going to the Vac system for the door locks also. Oil getting to these systems can be a mess to clean up. Charlie

Ah yes...an in-line tampon indeed, thanks Charlie.
Now at first, Jack, I thought this was related to the EGR too, but in tracing the line, it connects to a much thicker line that was traced back into the cabin. I almost thought it had something to do with the HVAC actuators. I do see the EGR there, but I thought the EGR wasn't an issue with the 1987 300TD with W124 engine? I remember when I first posted on here, people commenting that my engine didn't have the "large canister" or something like that. So I left it all as-is. If this thing is going to EGR...hmmm, maybe it was disconnected on purpose?

All that cr*p on the right side can come out. Including that black vent line, it is just stubbed out under the dash. It sucks cleaner air from the cabin to break vacuum on the actuators.
Get the block off kit from roll guy and install it. Pull your manifold, soak in bio diesel and scrub out with a bottle brush. Yucky messy job but worth it. Change the vacuum tee atop the vac pump from a 5 way to 3 way. Green hose is climate control Brown hose is the shut down White hose on sedans is the headrest dump (not on wagons) Leave the left side stuff intact, this is for the transmission shifting control and shut down.
