Assuming it's that funky nut, two things I learned.

1. Make sure the yoke is OK. On one of the flanges/dog ears, the hole was elongated which I assume happened over a bunch of miles and years. I had to replace mine and the yoke is very pricey from the dealer.

2. The funky nut is staked. That is why it may come loose. I staked it and it was fine. Assuming it's only the nut, you're looking at a quick and very cheap repair.

I hate to be the whiner.. (c'mon, there always is one), but can anyone be more specific about where we'd find this nut?

Assuming it's the yoke nut, I posted two pictures of it.

Thank you for all the replys I took the car to a professional trans. shop today as it seemed to me the trans. will have to be pulled as the problem is inside I am pretty sure and after reading the total rebuild that stretch put out a while ago on tne 722.118 and I have the newer improved 722.3 I did not want to get into that and was advised that if I got a used one I'd probably wind up having 2 bad trans. and a lot of grief. I will let the members know what failed on my trans. I just hope the repair bill will not be too extreme.

It does sound like a b2 problem. If its just the piston, this can be serviced witthout pulling th box.

For the yoke nut problem i had the scumbag mechanic wouldnt let me see the problem or watch the repair magic. He said, i know my business i am the mechanic here" I did sneek a look and see him using a prybar between the drive shaft and flex disc on the rear differential and the flex disc on the front of the yoke. He didnt loosen the nut on the drive shft to collapse the length. This was probably because he knew the yoke or output shaft was worn. And he wanted to create a pressed fot to keep opposing pressure between the trans and differential so the yoke would stay deep on the output shaft. Cool.

I had to pay a bill about 7 miles from my mothers house the ran fine and shifted thru the 4 speed auto. trans. smoothly, when I went to leave 5 min. later the car would not move at all in any gear it was almost like the driveshaft was unhooked but it did hold in park like it should. When I would put it in gear I could hear a little movement it seemed in the driveshaft but would not move an inch in forward or reverse. I checked the trans. fluid it was a little low I added a qt. but it made no change at all. I had to rent a u-haul truck and trailer and trailered it home because I have to go to work on Thurs. Does any one have any ideas as what could have happened and gave me no forewarning to leave me stranded? I still have the car on a trailer so I could take it to a trans. shop if needed. I do'nt know if I want to spend $2-3 grand to rebuild it. The car is an 85 (300)SD I think it has the 722.3 auto. trans. I heard some people talk about a nut that can work itself off at the rear of the trans. that would leave the driveshaft in limbo but I do'nt think it would hold in park like it does? I also heard people talk about a B-2 piston could that be my problem if so where is it and is it hard to change?
It is good to have a Auto Club Membership for the free tows.

With the B2 Piston issue you should still be able to shift and run in reverse. I am not sure if that is so if the B2 Band beaks.

The repair for the second time fix was to let it sit in the driveway. Accually, it dint totally fail like before but the driveshaft is wiggles. So its a matter of time.
