87 300td trans vac question
Hey guys I've been working on a sweet wagon all summer.. Got it with a blown engine so swapped an engine from my old 300sdl that the trans quit on me.. I learned the radiator was no good after cooking the trans in 12 miles because it was mixing water with trans fluid.. Swapped the trans from another donor sdl and now I'm not sure if I have the vac lines hooked up correctly but when I hook up the vac line it shifts very smooth but sometimes hesitates shifting 2-3rd and 3-4th and seems to slip sometimes in 4th.. When I unhook the vac line it doesn't slip just shifts hard. I read about popping the plastic cap off and adjusting the vac fitting on the trans but figured I'd ask before adjusting stuff. I'm hoping it's just adjusted so it's shifting too soft and not fully engaging?
Thanks guys and I have one of those green pieces in between the line going to the trans. |

Also I added a separate trans cooler and mounted it to the oil cooler I read when you add a trans cooler it makes it run too cool I'm hoping the oil cooler will help it run at normal engine temp.. Any input on this¿ thanks again

Turn the vac modulator CW for a sharper shift. That may be all you need. The tranny only needs vac for the downshift; without vac you should get a clunk at each downshift which seems to be what you are experiencing. It bleeds off the vac for the upshift.
So maybe you have the vac modulator turned too far CCW and it is giving you soft, soft shifts (although I do not know whether it would cause the shifts to slip). |

If that does not resolve the problem, it could be the B2 or possibly some other valve. If you will search the forum, there is a chart that shows (as I remember) B1, B2, K1, K2, maybe others and which valve is used in each shift. You can use it to identify which valve might be bad.
For example if B2 is the only valve common to every bad shift, then it might be a B2 problem. I finally found a chart for a 190E. It is probably not good for your tranny but this type chart is what you should study: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/tech-help/136388d1463790344-190e-wont-move-1st-reverse-apply_diag_2_722.3.jpg Last edited by tyl604; 10-31-2016 at 09:22 PM. |

Ok cool I'll look into it more thanks again.. I remember hearing of the b2 in my sdl before the trans completely **** out sometimes it wouldn't go into any gears it would just roll free like neutral, except park it wouldn't move.. Let it cool down overnight and it'd be fine again
