Calling a 190e 2.x-16v just a W201 is technically correct and morally wrong. I would say that my favorite MBZ's would be early W124 cars. The 87 300TD was a pleasure to drive and easy to work on. Simple and powerful. The 95 E320 has an impressive engine, but quality suffered. A W115 220D was just a fun car to drive, no power, slow but easy to work on. Simple too. Got to love the foot peddle for windshield washer fluid. My 1963 190D was a tank. Suffered from only 3 main bearings. in summary:

300SEL 6.3. Classic and Impressive
1987 300TD solid and reliable
190E 2.3-16v 5 speed, fun and a head turner
1995 E320 Wagon a real sleeper

Thank you all for your input - it's really interesting for me to read everyone's responses and opinions on what makes a certain model "great" or desirable. Maybe we should have stuck with only the classics!.....but what exactly makes a classic?
