Why doesnt Peachpart offer kits.
Seems simple enough. Offer a kit for standard repairs. I hate having to hunt down each little piece I need to fix something. I know there is another "source" that does kits... would seem like a simple enough thing to put together.

Do you have any specific examples as in exact year, make, model, desired service, parts included?
There is a fair amount of overhead to generate a kit with all the parts. Some buyers might balk at "having" to buy stuff they won't use. I "think" the company you speak of has a repair shop making it much easier to verify what is needed. |

How about a kit to replace the fuel line in the rear or the car? The rubber lines coming off the tank. Having a simple kit that include new quality hose clamps and enough hose to correctly complete the job would be nice. yes, this is lazy, but after hours of searching for various parts a kit starts sound better and better. How about a full front or rear suspension rebuilt kit. All lemforder and includes all the bit you need. You still have option of replacing a single part here and there, but a lot of time you get one of these older cars and you might as well just replace all the rubber bits. as I have done or am in the middle of doing on my wagon. Oh, another one, how about a seal kit for the sunroof, that includes the grease etc. |

I agree. They don't have to stock kit parts as a kit, they should establish a part number that when ordered puts the kit components in the shopping cart. The buyer can remove what's not needed. There can even be a choice of brands per item. It requires coding but no change in the warehouse.

They're just a reseller, nothing more.

In the day when Phil was here ...he would tell you what you needed and put in your basket what was needed for the repair then you could remove anything you wanted and pay. Those were the days with a more personal touch.

You can still find loads of lists for this kind of thing written by whunter
Just do a google search with "whunter" in the search string but limit the search with "site:peachparts.com" at the end of the search string (to stop getting results from other sites) #### As for kits - well there are often a few variations on the theme which would make things rather awkward for a supplier.

That must have been when the w124 technical articles were compiled here. Was looking through them yesterday regarding front wheel bearing R+R and it says order the kit as it has enough grease to pack two bearings along with new caliper bolts. Well the current bearing kit now does not show any grease. Would have ordered one kit and one bearing.

I agree, but not sure Peach Parts is the one to do so. For my 1960's Chrysler cars, I can buy an Edleman kit to rebuild the power steering gear, pump, etc. They are even further divided into cheaper kits for say just the sector shaft, input shaft, etc. Usually <$30 for even a full kit. Other companies sell full engine kits, though often cheaper to piece-meal parts. Ad-in many after-market makes for say tubular control arms, poly bushings, ... You can find a few scatter kits for a W123, often on ebay. I recall a power steering pump kit and idler arm. But, the easy life is owning certain popular cars, like 1967 Camaro or Mustang.

What about a community managed list of components/part numbers to do common jobs? Not sure the best way to manage that, perhaps something in the wiki?

1: A power steering pump seal kit is a common single part number item that is generally purchased from an outside supplier that specializes in that type of repair part. 2: A "repair task kit" would include parts to do a specific job like changing a timing chain. Chrysler was doing this 15 or so years ago and I don't know if they still are. This was just "a list of part numbers that you need to order all together to accomplish a specific repair." The car maker can easily do this since they have full access to build sheets / assembly manuals and people that generate repair manuals. An auto parts store has a much more difficult time doing this as they don't have this depth of access. There are professions where a certain level of knowledge is required / assumed and the supplier of the materials isn't required to teach the purchaser how to use a wrench. Having tech articles on this site is a bonus that PP so graciously provides along with this forum. Yes, there are times I'd like to have a list of parts to order. In this case I use past experience ( even it if isn't on that specific type of car ) / look at the parts / repair manual and pick out what I need Wholesale HVAC / electrical supply houses sell exclusively to the "trade" because they don't want to deal with / assume liability when Harvey Homeowner is asking how to take the cover off of an electrical outlet. The counter guys know about the product but don't necessarily how to install the product. |
