722.427 v 722.435 differences

Hi folks,

Thinking of lining up a spare auto box to swap out sometime in the future. Does anyone know the if the two boxes are interchangeable, the 722.427 seems to be fitted to C250D five pot whereas mine is 722.435, S124 6 pot.

Couldn't see the 427 listed here but it may only cover US models?

Mercedes Benz 722.6 transmission application guide

Thanks,

The 202 box might have an inductive speedo cable vs the mechanical speedo cable in the 124. Other differences would be calibration to engine redline and torque curve.

Thanks, only tempted as there are a few popping up with low miles, this one has 89k but is the 427.

The inductive speedo cable v mechanical, is this the cream piece of plastic shown here (actual box for sale).

I believe that's for the normal/sport setting selector or something like that. The driven end of a mechanical speedo cable has a gear vs a metal cylinder in an inductive drive. The cables attach at the same location of the transmission. The inductive drive has a plastic sleeve/pocket in the same port so you can't see or touch the internals. In the case of the 722.3 you can swap parts to make it work either way. It's a touch more work to adapt mechanical drive because of the lubrication requirement.

Thanks, v helpful -

Do you know if these boxes are difficult to rebuild, several apparent full kits available but unsure if do-able.

Oddly enough there's a transmission specialist about 30 miles from me offering reconditioned boxes for around $1,000 fitted, warranted too - might be another option.

In the USA anyway, that box, used for the E/S switch in europe, is used for an upshift delay to warm the cat up more quickly on gas cars.
