Ball Joint Press (87 300D)

Good Day All!

I am looking to borrow/rent a ball joint press for a 1987 300D (W124). Was crawling underneath last night and they could use replacing.

I am also need to do the ball joints in my 87 300TD so would like to hold onto the tool for approximately 1-2 months. I have not problem leaving a security deposit. :-)

Thank You All!!!

glenn

Consider purchasing new lower control arms, which should come with new ball joints and new inner bushings installed. Although the cost is high, they will save you a LOT of labor and avoid the need for special tools (but you'll still need the spring compressor). Suspension work is hard work.

home made press FTW - makes changing ball joints a breeze on the W124 and W201 cars.

I managed to rent a balljoint press from autozone and did the balls joints on 2 separate w123 cars. You may be able to do the same. All the machine shops I took the steering knuckle to didn't want to touch it. So I just did it myself. A bit of work but not impossible. By the second w123 it only took 4 hours to do both sides. Most of that time was breaking the balljoint connection loose with a piece of **** harbor freight balljoint separator that wanted to break.. Good luck!
