Om603 - where does this part go?

Putting this motor back together after replacing the rings and rebuilding injectors and have this cover left over that I can't remember where to put back in the car. (This is a w124 series 300D.)

just a guess, but heat shield for turbo or downpipe?

Looks to me like the heat shield for the steering gear idler arm.

Yeah, I think the idler arm is where it goes. Those pictures show it - thanks four the help.

Not trying to give you grief but this reminds me to always take copious photos of everything before and during disassembly. With a smart phone, there's no excuse not to.

I hate running into the same sort of head smacking event. For awhile, my daily drivers were matching '87 E30s, made two days apart. THAT was a serious luxury, I always had the other one to refer to when trying to figure out where I had gone wrong.
