Oh wow, I didn't know it would come out once the head is removed.

I'll follow you guys advice and grind/cut off the head and then remove the stud.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

After exhausting research I decided I will get a straight die grinder and grind off the head. Cutting it seems too risky.

Another option: using a dremel, cut a fat slot across the bolt head, then use a drag link socket to turn it out.

Where are you located, I'm sure there's members close to you who have welders/oxy torch setups, I had a bear of a time removing those blasted xzn bolts when I had the cursed black w124 of doom.

I'm near knoxville tn, and have a MIG welder, and access to a TIG, or Oxy torches if that's any closer to you.

Scratch that, I had no idea that "newport news" is a city in VA. yea still a drive to get to me.

This might not seem especially helpful but you might think about looking into a welding class at a community college. I took one, I forget, maybe 10 years ago and a year or so later needed to put a new cat in my BMW E30.

On the Bimmer, I was quoted $5 hundred I think, I forget, to weld in a new CAT. I found a new Lincoln MIG 220V welder from a guy on Craigslist who had a line on unsold lots of equipment. I got it for $400. Cat was $100 so for this one install I paid for the welder.

Welding is serious business, doing it well is an artform. My welds work but aren't pretty.

Granted, you won't need to replace a cat on your car but other things do arise. Such as the exhaust pipe repair I did on my SDL not long after I bought it:

Leaking exhaust, just below flex fitting

God only knows what someone would have charged to do that but I'm guessing $600 to $1000.

*AH*

Finished reading the thread. No welding. Still, welding is a good skill to have.

another oft-ignored solution is vice grips. i know, i know, but hear me out....IF (big if) you have the clearance they can save you time.
the biggest mistake people make is failing to tighten the vice grip AFTER you lock it on the bolt head/nut/etc.
the knurled bit that you use to move the jaws (and often has an allen keyway) can be turned with another pair of vice grips (or the allen wrench) to actually get incredible biting power. now, you may find that with cavity-headed type bolt you may exert enough force to deform the head and in rare cases i've broken the jaw on the vice grip, but they replaced it

Welp hogweed, I just pulled a dingus move, I forgot I had hammer, all I need really is the rivet and nut buster bit...

Just ordered it, a die grinder and a carbide burr would be nice but I'm cheap and want the cheapest way out.

I did try vice grips but there wasn't enough room for a good grip.

That's an idea, Hogweed. Fit an XZN bit then crush the bolt head around it with vice grips.

A $14 Harbor Freight angle grinder should be good for at least one bolt head - https://www.harborfreight.com/4-12-in-43-amp-angle-grinder-69645.html

and that would keep the head from crushing to the point that you could no longer be able to turn it
