W123 W114 ENGINE SWAP OPTION OM616

Hello guys,

I'm trying to swap OM616.912 engine from 1982 240d W123 into 1975 W115 240d.

I read few threads and found out one of the things i have to do is cut the strut brace because of the oil filter housing Clarence issue.

Besides the strut brace. What other stuff i gotta do? When i was doing the side by side comparison i noticed the 1982 om616.912 little bit more vacuum lines coming out of the firewall compared to w115 and it also have some more linkages on top of the engine.

I would recommend that donor and recipient be side-by-side for the swap, so you can make sure you don't leave anything on the donor that you need for the installation.

I do believe that you'll need to swap over the intake or exhaust manifolds or both. I would try to keep the entire glow plug system from the 123. No idea how the throttle linkages will work.

You may have an interesting time trying to get the engine shutoff and glow plugs working, since they were part of the knob thing that the /8 has. Can always do a manual switch for the glow plugs, and rig a bracket to hold the cable for the shutoff - but then again you will have an MW pump which shuts off by pushing the "throttle" arm on the pump back so that may be tricky. Have fun!

Cant' you swap the oil filter housings between those blocks to avoid cutting the body brace?

I foresee swapping all manifolds, other accessories, and the Injection pump too. The W115 uses a cable for fuel shut-off, while a W213 uses a vaccum signal. The glow system works differently between those engines as well (W115 = manual/W123 = automatic).
