Well u need to figure out if it's the SD card failing or if it's the phone failing...

So buying a new sd card asap needs to happen to u can be sure it's that card that failed.

In my opinion if its the phone that is failing then u actually have a big issue and u should be working on getting a new phone thru warranty.

Although if it's just the card... Bring it back to best buy and exchange it for a new one... Simple as that, don't try to fix it, i imagine at this day and age u backed everything up to the cloud that was saved on it.

If the card broke just randomly like u say it did best buy will exchange it no problem but if they don't just buy a new one.... It's 20 bucks. which is not worth doing all this research and trying to call the sd card company and get it replacd under warranty and all that. Buy a new one. Case closed.

Not to mention. SD cards are obsolete now. The cloud is more secure, more reliable (ie your card breaks), u can't misplace and lose the cloud, uploading/downloading is faster, easier, etc etc etc etc

Phone works fine, that's the first thing I checked, by putting in another SD card. My photos are automatically backed up onto Google drive/ Google photos.

Calling Samsung and filling in the online form took minutes. Case closed.

Going to Best Buy means looking for the receipt, driving to the mall, pay $3.00 for parking, stand on line, and face the possibility that they will say it is out of warranty and to contact Samsung.

Only those who don't think the government is up to no good like Google. I forgot my password to youtube which is owned by google. Youtube sent a text to my Google cell phone based on my email address. Enough of my data has leaked for them to have name, address, phone #, banking information & current location. The only thing missing is medical info and my Doc's office has probably provided that. Of course, they'll only use the information for my personal benefit.

I like VSTech's solution better but he needs at least 1 server to be in a different location and to have copies on removable encrypted drives so that he can grab them and go. Encryption adds some other complexities. I haven't found anything that different operating systems can all access.

eh, agree on principle but that's overly alarmist. Google anonymizes everything and has pretty strict data policies. The only way you link your phone, youtube, gmail accounts is by consciously opting in to do so. Also, sending a text is not the same as linking accounts. At one point you set your YouTube recovery to your cell phone number, which is inherently different than the phone and OS itself.

I have a few different brand cloud servers, but they all act the same... all devices and OS computers can access them.

I never consciously link youtube and my phone. The common field between the accounts is my email address. Youtube has it. My Droid phone has it. Apparently Youtube has access to at least some of my cell data. I note that the US government is one of Google's largest customers.

"Overly alarmist" reminds me of the old joke....."I'm not paranoid. They're REALLY out to get me". I expect that no one is out to get me AND I've watched the government come down hard on people that didn't break any laws but simply reported the government's breaking of laws. Go back and review Watergate and the actions against Dan Ellsberg for an obvious example.

Early in Gulag Archipelago there was a statement (paraphrasing) "you don't think it can happen in the US....but it can". WE seem to be moving in that direction.

Back to Mercedes car repair: It's getting warm. I think I'll go adjust my valves.

Ok, I REALLY don't want any political or religious discussion points on this forum please...

If you micro sd fails, if you're on a windows system you're SCREWED, unless you backed up the data.
However if you're on a linux system it's possible to repair micro sd using gparted.
Or if you're crazy enough, just by doing it manually thru the terminal, but if you can do it manually then you need to apply for an entry level I.T. job asap.

A quick band aid approach is to...
1. Unmount the SD
2. Format the sd with zeros.
3. Apply the MSDOS partition table.
4. Apply the FAT32 partition scheme.

Then it should work.
You're data will be completely erased however.

You can recover the data if you wipe the drive with 1's AND 0's. And using a data recovery program.
But once again if you can manage doing that, then get your butt into I.T. now!

Do you pay for your cloud servers or did you host them from scratch (by using an old laptop as a server perhaps)?
