Wow, I never, ever seem to see old diesel Mercedes on the road here in Phoenix. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that the air conditioning never seems to work on these cars. The Sea-Tac area of Washington was overflowing with them, though. I used to see old diesel Mercedes fairly regularly in the wrecking yards here before the yards closed.

I parked beside a nice-looking W123 at Ace a few weeks ago. No rare value in CA. Even my now rare 1965 Chrysler isn't worth much. The lower end Valiants and Darts are worth much more.

And while the 124.036 may not be as quick as newer AMG's... it's still a wee bit quicker than most of your 124's (M104 and OM603 powered, IIRC). Probably more accurate to state that if you wanted a fast 4 door, there are plenty of less expensive options. |

There are probably 10 W123’s within walking distance of my house in So Cal.

Not many here also but, parts in overdose due massive support dealer and aftermarket. Lucky to live in Holland then.

I’ve only seen 4-5 W123’s in my area in the past 6 months and they were either mine or other forum members cars. They are essentially gone in this area. I do still see a W124 about once or twice a week on the road.

123 are getting so rare here in NH that when we pass each other we wave. Even to rusty, banged up ready for the bone yard ones.

Here in the Pacific NW they are still pretty common on the streets of cities. I haven't been to the JY latley as in 2010 I got a good low-mileage SD and I've just been driving it. Many long trips: SEA to LAX or SLC or further. Now it could use paint as the clear coat is peeling but is it worth it? I dunno.

This thread just goes to show in low corrosion locations, any car lasts longer.
They are rare here now too, and have been for a while. One problem with them is that vinyl undercoating makes them hell to do rust repair work. Unless its a garaged cream puff, a DD one is going to rot out sooner or later, and be too expensive to fix when it does. Few body shops want to touch them. In climates where daily driving a 123 does not cause it to rust, they are more plentiful

We got really lucky finding our 1980 240D on Craigslist running and in daily driver condition save for new tires and a cv replacement. We picked it up for $850 and we are the third owners. We are new to the 123’s but there seems to be decent parts availability in Portland, OR
