Early adopters always suffer for the cause (thanks for that.)
EVs should require far less brake maintenance, since as much stopping force as possible is developed from regenerative braking. |

The actual problem is not people moving themselves in EVs, its the cargo/food etc that is hauled on a truck, that is the major pollution problem that needs to be tackled.
Why cannot we just rely on heavy trains to move our cargo? - ton for ton railways cannot be matched for cost.

That is more a solution than a problem
EVs will help a lot in urban areas. Just have to look at gridlock at and around rush hour in all our major cities.

I dont see how EV will reduce the gridlock. - Buses and trains yes! - they can move more people in a smaller footprint on the road.

There won't be a single one size fits all silver bullet solution to the problem.
Trains to move large cargo to local-ish areas, sure. Then EV trucks(already being done/used) to move the cargo from the train to the final destination. Electric overhead wire powered trains, local trucks with relatively small batteries and inductive power pickup in the road(already being done) for longer distances.

Really? If one were to describe the best possible application for currently available EVs, short in town trips would be exactly it.

They might be able to take my engine, but they wont get my hand crafted Benz. Guess I'll have to do an electric drive train swap, future project. I would love to pair it with the diesel motor. The diesel eletric hybrid the ultimate combination in term of fuel milage.
Or might have to adpot and import one of these: https://www.hybridcars.com/61-mpg-run-for-mercedes-benz-e-300-bluetec-hybrid/ Too bad Mercedes left the diesel game.

With diesel power this could solve both range issues.

???? I thought reason for EVs was to reduce emissions

My brother lives in Africa. He has an E250 diesel. I was surprised to hear it doesn't have the Bluetec emission system. At first I thought he must be wrong, but it seems that they don't have the low sulfur fuel diesel emission systems require, in most African countries. Apparently that is where auto companies are dumping their excess new car diesel inventories. Wouldn't be surprised if dieselgate cars are also ending up there and in other countries that don't have the emission regulations we have in NA and Europe.

now to compound this, problem of some countries everloving green issues - air doesnt need a passport to blow around, one or twenty countries going EV will not affect much of the environment because the rest 80% or so countries still dont have pollution regulations. You will still have global warming and air quality issues regardless.
